I'm writing the script to a video about how strange this game is. What stands out to you? I've been reading through the manual, and it's amusing how transparent they are about thing. "Yeah, this government is just space communism." The the misspelling on a crucial description of a sticky rules point (posses instead of possess). was one that struck me. But what hidden forbidden pieces of lore does the community know?

Weirdly enough, I've never played ToT - I didn't even know it exists until recently.
So sorry, I cannot help you here.

These aren't all ToT specific, but: your spaceship fails if your capital is captured while it's in flight; both land and water units can cross purely diagonal connections; defenders don't get animated; and when you fly to another planet, your exact destination is determined by where you were on the starting planet.

1. The fact that ToT is the only Civ with cutscene movies for special story events.

2. Some moments of the ToT manual writers having fun (though the base Civ2 has an unusually lighthearted manual in the whole series too):

3. The ToT manual uses one terminology "Grand Project" to encompass its spaceship equivalents.
Technically this is the first time "Project" appears in the Civ series as a catch-all terminology for build items that are not units, buildings or wonders.

There’s a surplus of kaiju in the units. The extended game lets you build giant spiders , and dragons via Teratogeny. Meanwhile the Centauran aliens can build giant scorpion and giant manta riders, giant hawks, and also giant amoeba. In the sci-fi campaign you can build griffins, giant bumblebees, and also rideable scorpions.

I think they just had a lot of extra sprites they decided to use.

There’s also a good amount of fantasy-themed material in the sci-fi campaign, with Wonders like Sir Arthur’s Stone or Wizard Scouts. Maybe they had extra fantasy assets in general.
