What's The Worst Map For Each Civ?

"Bad" maps are fun, most times, but being denied a useful role for one's UU sucks.

I try not to give advice or opinions on starts; did that a few times and got angry responses and PMs from gamers who didn't think they should have to garrison their capitol, build on a hill, build any real military for "just in case", etc. 'cause Civ IV's basically a sandbox they come to crush everyone, not to be seriously opposed. But I love the freakin' Deity challenge of defeating the barbs, doing without until I've built or captured what I need, and just either triumph or die with my axemen making a final stand on our city's walls.

I look forward to some more reports.

I think I'm onto something .... better balanced.

I scrapped the Great Plains map and use Oasis instead.

Brennus against Tokugawa, Qin, Shaka and Sitting Bull. Still boatloads of barbs, but the A.I.s are doing a better job, lasting longer. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Again, I ruled out building World Wonders.

I was overrun in 360 BC, 3 hours and 4 minutes.

I built 2 cities. There was no copper in sight. I was only a turn or two away from Ironworking. I lost one warrior and a dozen archers.

Barbs Killed.

246 warriors

22 swordsmen

123 axemen

51 spears

280 archers

Tokugawa was still in business in the SouthWest corner, Shaka in the NorthEast. The scenario may well be about drawing a corner start. It's still tough enough to seem nearly hopeless, but it feels like I have a slight chance, and the AIs don't drop like flies under an early barb rush.

I'll try it once again.

I'm going to play it now - wish me luck!

You are a real masochist. Oddly enough, you will be the appropriate size for the European possessions of Portugal.

I guess any early UUs on an archipelago map or map with a high number of continents (and thus seperating Civs out and giving more isolated starts) would be a bad combo.
