Whats up with The Great Wall? (Graphics)

I have a game where I rather early build the great wall. It only covered around the city where I build the wall (Like it would in Civ IV considering no other city where linked to it with culture border)

I have then saved the game and returned later loading the game. Now the wall is around a larger area but still only around the builder city (althou other cities have a culture border with the capital)

Now in late game all my empire is connected and even after a new reload it still only goes around the city I build it in and not all of my empire.

Anyone that knows what the intention of this is? After all it seems rather strange its moving in the first place and when it are why dont it behave more like the Civ IV Great Wall (After all it should effect all of my culture area not just the one city)

I can tell you that I got it constantly changed. When I got to the point my empire was connected, the wall was at my empire border on every reload ie the wall grew along my borders.

My gripe with the Great Wall, is why the heck does it also build along your coastal borders.

This looks horrible, and afaik did not happen in previous 3d Civ games.

I'm not one to quibble over graphics but I really hate the great wall in IV and in V. It's an absolute eyesore.

There's no doubt the great wall of china is an amazing structure but I could surely do without it in civ due the graphical attrocity that it is.

You also have to figure a lot of dev work goes into just making that one visual happen, which IMO is a big waste of resources.

They change the effect on wonders with every version, including changing the wall this time around, and they could easily give the effect of the wonder to some other wonder (as they semi-randomly gave out many effects this time around).

What's depressing is when you're 3 turns away from completion, and you can see the half-completed exoskeleton of it wrapped around your empire. Then someone else finishes it first, and the thing just vanishes....where does it go??

Salvage yard.

I also love the logic. "Hey guys, we've spent the last 400 years building this huge wall around our entire empire, but it looks like some guys on the other side of the planet have just built their own wall. Thanks for all your hard work and slave labor, but if we can't be the first one to have a huge wall then we don't even want it. Your severance package is with Mary the receptionist at front desk and security will make sure you don't steal anything that belongs to the empire."

:)

I seriously doubt that. It's as simple as some graphic dev making a few pieces of wall+curved wall and then a simple algorithm matching wall pieces to city border.

I must say I also find it annoying though. I'd love to see them make it more complicated myself. Like have it be a requirement that it can actually wall off a sizable chunk of land then make it take a lot of workers to actually build the thing.
