    As the title says...

I'm not a huge computer gamer. I only play a handful of computer games, which includes the Civ series. But, I love history and am looking for new, more realistic and/or deeper, historical games to try. I'm currently playing the EU4 demo, for instance, and am considering buying that game, if I can catch a sale anyway.

I know of the Total War series, but it seems too focused on the warfare aspect for my tastes.

Age of Empires starts from the dawn of man, but it is real time.

I've had a couple of Paradox Interactive games on my "things to play" list for quite a while, and I think both fit the bill: Europa Universalis IV and Hearts of Iron III. It seems like they're not for casual gamers, though (I don't know if you're a casual gamer or not, I'm just saying').
