Civ1 in '93 or so, discovered Empire Deluxe and so skipped Civ2, and then found Civ3 about a year ago.

That's about how I started as well, except I went from Pirates to Civ 1. (Can't wait for the new Pirates game!)

But really, I started with the Civ board game, I think Avalon Hill used to make it. Cardboard pieces and trading cards! The first scenario in Conquests reminded me of it.

    I've been there since Civ I, although I didn't start until '97.

Since at the time when Civ 1 was released there were hardly any other good games available (Lemmings was the only other really brilliant one that days) there was no way around it... :D

I think I was like... 10 or 11 years old when I played it first (not alone indeed since I had no computer)

The first time I played Civization was on the old SNES. One day our neighbor Gary Mud came over the house with Civization 1. He let us borrowed the game for a while and me and my dad were hooked. I never played Civ 2, but I did buy Civization 3 and got into the game series again. :D

Shortly after I bought my first Pentium computer, I was looking at games at the software store. Being in my 50s, my reflexes weren't good enough to play any shooter games, so I asked the guy at the store to recommend some game I could handle. Being an old geezer himself (middle 20s), he understood my problem. He recommended CIV 2. I was hooked after the first couple of turns.

Since then I've bought SMAC, SMAX, CTP, CIV3 and PTW. I haven't got C3C because it's a Christmas present.

    1994.

My first game took 9 hours, non-stop.
I wouldn't sleep any night of that long week.

I started with Civ when it was a board game by Avalon Hill.

The game would take ages to complete, if people were not cooperating.
