when does a lake become a Sea with salt water

in my current game my continent and my land is filled with what i was thinking was big lakes. but no i couldnt make irrigation. 1000 years later i found that a big one had fresh water. so my question. at how big does a lake stop being fresh water and start being a Sea?

Can you have a Huge Lakes map were the lakes get so big the become oceans?
 
I think a fresh water lake turns into a sea if just one of the tiles is an ocean tile, that is, further than one tile away from any land tile. Theoretically, you could have a lake that takes up more than 50% of the map as long as it never gets any wider than 2 tiles at any point.

Yes. The size of a lake is determined in the GlobalDefines XML file. It set rather low, less than ten I think, so to create a lake ocean you would have to set that number to several hundred or so. The rest would be up to the Map Generator or you if you used Worldbuilder.

Check globalDefines.xml, like Mallin said. The people who said 10 tiles were right.
