When does the AI consider a gpt deal ?

This thread is more on questions relating to when the AI will consider a gpt offer for a tech. (not on price) There are conditions ( I think) in place when the AI will refuse all gpt offers.

Does anyone know the answers to these questions. I know the programming for gpt deal is faulty, but it AI seems to handle it better when the deals are simple. When too many options are put on the neg table it usually crashes.

Here are 4 Questions I have, so please post if know the answer

Does culture effect the AI decision in considering a gpt deal ?
Does the mood effect the AI decision in considering a gpt deal ?
Is there any specific date before a gpt deal is considered?
Are gpt deals ever considered if you break a peace treaty with that civ or any civ ?

Cheers

I haven't noticed this, but others claim it does have an effect.

Yes. The more polite or 'gracious' they are, they will give you better deals. It might not be a huge amount, but it is a little better deal, than when they are furious.

No. The civ simply needs to be making money. This usually doesn't happen though until they go into republic, or at least monarchy. Prior to that, they usually don't have the infrastructure to be making money, so they invest what little money they do have in science or buying maps.

If you have a real bad reputation, usually the AI will not accept any gpt from you, because you are likely to break the deal and not have to pay any more gold (you get something for free). However they might agree to pay you gpt, because if you break the treaty, they get the tech without having to pay you any more money if you break the deal.

"Bad reputation"?

When I have it it usually is for something I never did, or did three thousand years ago!

I cut a trade deal, tech for tech. It's good to go. I offer half a dozen FREE resources as a bonus. . . and the stupid AI insults me and tells me "not after your perfidy with" so and so. I'm offering this stuff FREE, so there's no logical reason it should be concerned I'd break the deal as, one, the rep. isn't deserved in the first place, and two, even if I broke the deal two turns later you still got free stuff until then!

What an AI. :crazyeye:

They usually want a gpt deal when you have luxuries and they have hardly any or are in a war and need to keep thier people happy. I can usually sell luxuries for decent amounts early in the game and later about 60 gpt for the modern ages

I just had a game where I was researching on my own, but wanted to trade for another tech. The guy said 600 gold, so I went and tried to change that to 30 gpt--and he said NO!

He had just declared war on someone else, so I figured that he wanted the gold up-front to purchase units.

The next turn I realized my mistake--I had left my science slider to where I was doing my research--BUT WAS ONLY GETTING 1 GPT INCOOME!!! When I went and changed the slider so that I HAD the 30 gpt income, the AI took the deal!

The lesson here is--max out your per/turn income and then you can get trades of anything for gpt. This makes sense since the AI is NOT going to give you 'credit'--he needs to be able to see that you have the gpt available.

Hope this helps everyone!

JFL, I think the most common problem when offering GPT is that you are not making enough GPT to back up your offer. Try turning your science and luxuries down to 0 and then make the offer. When you are done negotiating turn your sliders back to what you want. If you have not broken a deal and can show that you make enough GPT you will probably be able to make the deal if it is reasonable. However, for what it is worth, I almost never make GPT trades to the AI because it usually implies that you are getting ahead of yourself. ;)

It is not important for the AI: you declared that you will provide resources for 20 turns and you should do that - even if it was free.

But there is much greater problem: if the deal was broken e.g. by a barbarian galley or after the other civ lost connection to a harbour (e.g. if it is a civ crushed by a stronger neighbour) - it doesn't matter that you are not guilty, the other civs thank that you are :E Especially, if it was a deal like "some gold and gpt for a resource" or "a tech for gold and resource".

Hi y'all...first post. I bow to all of your CivIII expertise. (Or at least I'm just letting you think I'm bowing, inticing you to bow back, at which time I run around and cut off your supply of iron. *evil laughter*)

I've been reading about everyone receiving gpt for techs and in all the games I've played over the last 6 months, I've never been able to negotiate a gpt in return for one of my techs, at least during ancient through to industrial times. Last night I was offered 210 gold for Code of Laws but when I suggested 10 down to even 1 gpt instead, I was met with the old "they will never accept that deal".

Is there some trick that I don't know? I usually play regent, if that matters and I'm running v1.29f.

Appreciate the help.

In Ancient times, the AI very rarely has the gpt to spare. It's even pretty rare that they'd have 210 gold total at that time.

Try again once the civs mostly have Republic or Democracy. I've been offered HUGE gpt in the Modern era for new techs.

In my current solo game I've been playing pretty peacefully, no broken deals, lots of trading. I did settle close (our 21 square radii will overlap upon expansion but not our 9 square radii) to a city that had just been taken from the Iroqui by the Zulu, so I could get the local insense and some cows. Peaceful expansion, I thought. Now I can't get or offer gpt deals from anyone! I really don't know if it is the resource grab or if my neighbors are planning to attack and so don't want to trade gpt with me. This is not just the Zulu this is all the civs I know!

Strange. Did you have a gpt deal with the Iroquois for the incense? If so, when the Zulus captured it from the Iroquois, they think you broke the gpt deal.
