As the Greeks, I have 12 cities in the middle of a crescent-shaped continent. The Egyptians are to my west, have about 10 cities, and are behind in technology and fairly poor. The Romans are to my north/nw, have around 15 cities, and are my scientific equals. It's right around 1AD, my money is very good, and I just switched to monarchy.

My border cities have temples, and both bordering civs are very impressed/awed by my culture. Now: Should I prepare and attack one/both civs, since I have GP? Or should I build galleys and hope for some newfound-land (not the one near Labrador)? I am open to trying new ideas/approaches, so fire away--and please give some detail to your approach. Thanks in advance.

Could you post a save for the game?

I would attack the Egyptians and only them. Try to destroy them but keep all the cities if you can. You could try and get the Romans to join you in a Military Alliance. Then, when you hopefully get a golden age (maybe from the Hoplites if you hadnt had one yet) you can build some quick temples and stuff and rush the Forbidden Palace if you get a leader.

I have not yet had a golden age, so that's a good possibility. Exactly how and where would I post the save? I'd be glad to do it.

I would see which Civ has the most resources for you to gain. Resources are one of the main reasons why I will go to war in Civ3. You will also want to look at the terrain, if you have to go over a lot of mountains to get to one but not the other, go for the one with out the mountains / jungles etc..

If you go against the egyptians make sure that Romans will not join THEIR side and you will be stuck in the middle. Try to make sure that Rome likes you. Maybe set up some good deals with them, Right of Passage and such will really help in this reguard. Sounds like you dont need them in this battle so you will want to make sure that the only gains during this war are your gains.

If you decide to go against Rome then check and make sure how your Army compares vs theirs. Your military advisor will tell you how weak theirs is compared with yours. You will actually want to do this step to both civs anyways. Figure out were you stand in your chunk of the world. If you are weak compared to them, then you will want to build and build lots of military to strike them.

You may also want to sign an alliance with Egypt to go against Rome, specially if Egypt is weaker than yourself. This will hopefully mean that Rome will chew on Egypt's cities rather than your own. If Rome does well against Egypt work that! Take those Egyptian cities back from Rome. This will hopefully mean that you will get some of Egypt's and some of Rome's cities by only going to war vs Rome.

Which ever war your pick, or even if you pick peace, do build Galleys and start exploring the world!

You can upload a save by using the 'upload file' option by scrolling all the way to the bottom of this page. After you get the 'upload confirmation' message, go to the uploads3 folder and find your file (organize the files by date, so the most recent ones are listed first is the easiest way to find your file, just remember the name of your file), then right-click on the file name and choose properties. This will give you the link of your file (highlight and copy the link). Then choose 'post reply' (don't use the quick reply window), so you can choose the http: button and paste the link into the pop-up window.

Well, from a quick peek at your save (it was reg. Civ3, i see, it crashed my PTW :( ) You should first of all, have many more workers... You have plenty of squares that really should have workers working on them... you have Hoplites in some areas guarding cities very distant from your borders, and Warriors guarding cities that are NEAR your borders, so you should move some of those Hoplites (such as the 2 Hoplites guarding Athens).

Yes, i agree you need a larger military... From my quick peek, i dont think you should go after Rome... They more than likely have Legionaries, and they also have a bigger military than you. I would say go after Egypt.

One LAST thing lol! Before you decide to attack either one of them, you should have workers build roads connecting to one of their cities for quick transportation of reinforcements to the front. And have a worker builg a road to the town near Egyptian borders (forget the name of it) that has a Warrior guarding.
