europe here. very interested in the game. i dont think that americans have an higher interest than europeans because their home country is the "setting" of the game.

I'm from the Netherlands and I always enjoyed the historical aspect of the game. There aren't a lot of games that have a Dutch influence in them. I mean, Colonization is the only game ever I could enter my name as leader, and not sound completely dorky :)

America as a continent is the setting of the game. Some videos and other details seem to imply it's US-centric, but the truth is most the things that happen could also apply to the Spanish colonies. I don't see how you could focus the game on the Dutch or the French so, barring the aforementioned videos (and perhaps the abundance of English FFs), Colonization's point of view seems pretty balanced to me.

I'm from New Zealand. Maybe you could have included Oceania in your poll? There is possibly a few people unwilling to associate themselves with Australia...

Hmm. That's true.

It should be Oceania instead of Australia in the poll, but I think those can't be edited once they're posted. :undecide:

North America, United States, Oklahoma. My family's been in Oklahoma ever since it was opened up to white settlement over 100 years ago. :)

I live in Budapest, Hungary.

My country has not at all a colonial history since the lack of ocean coast. It was natural for me to play the classic game and enjoy it without historical feelings. I must add that at first I was quite jelious to you guys, but thinking it over no other country could survive what we did: both Turkish and Mongol empire wanted to wipe us out, we spent so many centuries under foreign control. History took away everything from us that it could (2/3 of our territory was taken away after 1st world war).

It is easier to run than walk with stones tied to your foot.

I'm a little surprised there are so many European fans, considering the original's box art featured a ship that had sails which looked awfully similar to the U.S. flag. Or was that just an American thing?

Anyway, I'm glad that the new art is more country-neutral (though it does hint at more gun play than is really in the game).

London England.

Colonization was a double whammy for me, playing as the English then sitting back content I'd ensured the world dominance of my countrys culture and language - with a few modifications - once I was through kissing George's Pinky Ring and founding the Republic!

You know, Londoners have no English "accent" at all. Ask Shakespeare..........

I'm not sure I would have picked up the original Colonization but my dad knew I loved Civilization and Pirates! so he bought it for me seeing as it was another strategy game developed by Sid Meier. Heh, seems Sid is behind many of my favourite games.

Well, I was born in Sydney, NSW, Australia, but moved to Toronto when I was 9. Both Australia and Canada being ex-British colonies, I find this game very fun to play as the English!

Ireland / Europe. I will be in New York this weekend however and so will be able to get a copy before most Europeans :)

I wonder if the packaging will say colonisation or colonization in Europe.

Me too. I reluctantly put my vote in as Australia. All the other choices are continents but Australia is an island. Oceania or Australasia would have been more accurate.

I have been playing Col ever since it came out and have pre-ordered the new version. Should be only a few days away.

Pfff, dont do our small nation short. 'We' are in plenty of games of this era. And in most of them 'we' are portrayed as the most innovative and richest of them all :)

You might think so, but that is incorrect. Geologists had classified Australia as a continent.

New Zealand and the Asia Pacific islands are separate land masses, whereas a continent is described as a continuous land mass. So Oceania or Australasia would not be classed as a continent because of the separate land masses.

Additionally, with the exception of Papua New Guinea, the tectonic plate which Australia fits squarely in isn't even completely shared by any other major land mass. New Zealand falls only partly on the Australian plate but more so on the neighbouring Pacific plate. The other Asian islands are on the Eurasian plate.

On that matter, it has even been suggested that because Europe and Asia share the same plate and joined land mass (exception is India, which while a joined land mass has its own plate) that the continent should technically be Eurasia rather than one for each. Despite Australia being the smallest of the recognised continents, it fits the definition better than others.

It may be fair to call the neighbouring region as Oceania or Australasia, but the Australia is by all accepted definitions a continent in its own right.

I'm from Brazil and very disappointed with this game version without Portugal. Anyway I expect it as a good game.
