Where can I get SMAC/SMAX?

I've been trying to find the game and its expansion, but I haven't really had luck on any non-eBay sites.

I also want to make it clear that I am aware of the SoldOut version authorized by EA.

However, I would prefer the ORIGINAL versions for two reasons:

1) The 200-page manual is one of the things that I really liked about older games, and I would really like to see them back. Hence, why I want the original version with the large manual.

2) The Tech Tree Chart is one of those few vital tools I love to use, mainly because I hate having to alt-tab the game (to look at a guide) in order to see what techs I might want to research. I am aware that you CAN see what to research in-game, but I prefer to see the entire tech tree in writing.

I have played the game before and love it. But I would prefer to buy the game rather than using a copy.

I to am interested in this as well. My case is really strange. My GF just sold a large lot of my old computer games. Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire were among them with all of the manuals and fold-out tech trees. The sad thing is... they're sitting in the next room. I had doubts about adding that along with the other games, but I'm really regretting it.

So now I'm in the market for the same thing. Here's a question. Does the planetary pack have all of the manuals?

The question whether the Planetary Pack has the manual is not so simple to answer. Many copies of Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire (or combined editions, such as the Planetary Pack) are now being offered for sale on the web. However, we have seen that many of these offers are really for the Sold-Out Software edition, no matter what the description says. The Sold-Out version includes both SMAC and SMAX, but does not come with paper versions of the manual. It does have them as pdf files on the discs. However, the Sold-Out version installs by default secuRom DRM, which many don't like. I don't own the original Planetary Pack edition, but I think it only comes with the Prima Strategy Guide, not the manuals. If you find something that you might like to buy, I suggest that you contact the seller and ask about what they are actually selling. I will send you a PM with some more information. You might be able to find used paper copies of the manuals on Amazon.com or Abebooks.com.

I got the planetary pack from Costco in the late 1990s and it contained a boxed version of both original games and paper manuals, and no strategy guide.
