Where do they come from?

I had taken over a large continent. I had privateers and frigates potrolling my coast. All of a sudden 10 celt frigates and 10 loaded gallions just appear from no where. I had 6 frigates stationed along their coast. Now how can that be. I have been playing this cheating game for a long time and civ. conquest really out does them all with the cheats. Have you ever heard of customer satisfation. I will not be purchasing anymore of your games.

1. This isn't the official Civ site, you've never bought any of 'my' games :p

2. They didn't just 'appear from nowhere', that's literally not possible in this game. It's quite likely they snuck out between your scouts, or before they were even in position.

Anyway, any cheat like what you think you've experienced is surely not in CIV3/PTW, and I seriously doubt that there are any more cheats in C3C.

It's of course easier (for you) to think that you were the victim of a cheat, but I bet that those ships/units were produced normally by a pretty decent AI that surprised you.

Hehe, The No-cheats-police Officer is quite busy these days...;)

GeneralD:
The first thing you could do is to upload a save file so people can look into the game.
Almost always some 'out of nowhere' appearing fleet and such stuff can be easily explained.:)

And people used to complain that the AI didn't use a navy... Even Breakaway/Firaxs said that the AI would have a better navy in Conquests. It's still possible that they had those ships tucked away in a city, or exploring. Where did they come from? A save (or screenshot) would help.

I think in fact the AI was sooo in advance it discovered a future tech enabling the warping of units just like in Command&Conquer: Red Alert, where the Allies had the Chronostufflikethat and warped Battleships all over the place  :)
So you're right, these units DID appear from nowhere. I bet if you look carefuly at your save, they're even sticking their tongues at you from their boats ;)

One thing I know for sure is that there is no AI cheating in this case. If you post a save or a screenshot of that, I may be we will be able to tell you where they came from. Back in the old days, I often teleport my troops instantly into my enemy backyard (why spend 20 turns going around the map when you can get very close to your destination within 1 turn;)). Even after all these patches, the ability to teleport is still there within any version of Civ3. It's possible that the AIs were teleporting their troops too which btw is a valid feature within the game; therefore, it's definitely not a cheat.

PS: If you haven't seen teleporting in action before, just ask.;)

What do you mean by teleportation?

Teleportation = instantly transport an object or person from one place to another. If you are playing with magic, you could teleport an object or person (including yourself) from one realm/dimension to another. It's like a dimensional door, portal, or gateway to another far away land.

How does teleportation work in Civ3? I bet you have seen it many times already, but may be you have a different name for it.;) Have you ever noticed the AIs walking all over your land? If you demand them to leave immediately or else and they agree to leave, their units will be instantly teleported out of your territory (to the next neutral or back to their own territory). Of course, the destination isn't really random as you may think. Most expert players could easy predict the destination of this teleporting technique. With careful planing (like openning the portal at the correct location), it's possible to teleport your stack of units close to where you want to go.

Yes, I've used "teleportation" to get where I was going. I had just ticked off the Germans, because I was about to wage war. They controlled a decent amount of naval area, in which I had to travel. I could only muster 1/3 (roughly) of the way there. Bismarck then came to me with "Leave or die!" so I said ok and I was "teleported" to the other side, with 2 transports full. I later conquered him, and it was due to him "teleporting" me.

After you have researched everything in the game, you can research 'Future Tech' for bonus points.

So THAT'S where my invasion fleet went. They were on their way to wiping out the Japanese, and they hit this really wierd storm at sea and disappeared off my map...

;)

(If you haven't seen the 80s movie The Final Countdown about the USS Nimitz going back in time to Dec 6th 1941 you might not get my joke.)

I believe Moonsinger's explanation is the most logical out here.
Or, the AI must have sent a fleet to invade a nearby area, then called it back when the homeland was at risk.

:)

Perhaps they were coming from an UFO ? Were you near Rosswell ?;)

It is the same for me I have always the feeling my ennemies are coming from nowhere....

:D
