I think it is proble and expected tendancy.. Games like Civ must be more popular in northern countries than southern part of same continents...
Winter of notrhern countries are cold and long, and some case hard to sleep due to not-so-dark sky even in midnight. So they perfer stay in home and play games like Civ to spend evening or night time than leaving home.
People in Southern countries generally perfers to go out to street to enjoy themselves in the evening or in the night. So they are less like to find time to play games like Civ or chess..
This tendancy may be applied same to games likes chess game, board games and various table or cards games.

    Interesting view.

It would be interesting to compare a Northern US State to a Southern US State maybe Illinois to Florida in a poll.

True, good point. Winter even here in South Finland is cold and long. But the not-so-dark sky is of course only in the summer. Unless you mean the light pollution :(. Then, in North Finland, the sun doesn't set at all. And it doesn't rise at all there in the winter.

Where you live is one thing. But where you go on vacation and wheter you take Civ 4 with you is another! (I only take Civ 2.) I go as far north and as high up as I can, to dry out.
