Where is Hitler?

If they can have Stalin who killed more people than Hitler, then where is Hitler?
Not that I want to play as him but I would like to have him as an enemy.....

Lets face it, an evil prick he was, he advanced his civilization as much as any other that is listed in civ 4....

I know people will say because the Jewish community wouldn't have it....What about people that were apart of Stalin's genocide?

Trust me, this has been done to death. Hitler's not in the game because they can't show his likeness in Germany, so they used his erstwhile Vice-Chancellor, von Papen, in Road to War. Dale doesn't want to get sued for his art.

And whether he 'advanced his civilization' as much as other leaders (e.g. Genghis) is debatable. After all, he lost his war.

That point's debatable too. At the time Hitler came to power, the world economy was recovering from the Depression anyway. Hitler could have made it recover faster in Germany if he'd spent more money on public works, which he did do in the early years, but spending in rearmament distorted the economy and led to a balance of payments crisis. Also, any improvement in the economy should be attributed to Schacht, or possibly Goering, instead of Hitler.

Damon's right about Monty, though, he was pretty poor.

For the sake of accuracy, yes, it would be good to have Hitler in the Road to War scenario. But as I said, they can't have him in video games in Germany. So it's either a little historical inaccuracy with von Papen, or Firaxis loses the German market and all those juicy Euros, and Dale faces the possibility of action being taken against his mod (Road to War). I'm sure he has explained this many times.

And BTW, welcome to the forums! Don't worry, not everyone's as uptight as me.

This is just silly. Silly!

Civ4 is NOT a history game. If you want to play as Hitler or Mussilini, go ahead and buy Hearts of Iron 2. Play as nazis all you want. It's way more realistic than Civ4 as it is a WWII simulation.

Every other day we get one of these "why isn't so-and-so" in the game. Whether it's the Koreans, the Madagascarians, Hitler, or whoever. People want to take Caesar out of the game. Some people don't like FDR.

Hitler isn't in the game because he was a horrible person, and his horror happened way to close in recent history to include him. Even without the law it would be in bad taste to include him.

"But Roosevelt is in the game. He ruled at the same time, you schmuck!" Yes, he did. However, Roosevelt, despite his indiscretions, is historically known as a great leader of free people. Plus, to the victors go the spoils.

The fact is, Hitler hits a little bit too close to home for a lot of people. He represents a portion of society that wanted to do away with another sect of people. Yes, there are other leaders in the game who did the same thing, but they happened centuries ago. Not sixty-five years ago. This is a light-hearted game as far as the leaders go.

Not necessarily...Stalin was a terrible man, but in the eyes of many people, he was a great man (not in mine).
Atleast Stalin accomplished something, he killed MANY people with backbreaking labor, but industrialized Russia.
I've thought about it, and I don't think you can really compare the two, they're both terrible men, but atleast Stalin was somewhat sane. It's hard to explain...
