So, where do you think is the best spot? I am going for either domination or science victory. This is Deity btw.

Anywhere, wow. Probably where you are standing right now. You will 6! sheep, 2 silver, 1 weak (tundra) deer, 2 wheat, 1 horse, and a mountain. Dont forget to build a stables for some massive production!

Do you think that spot is better than coastal one south?

Settle where your settler spawns, and stop wasting time trying to outthink the map generator.

Build another settler to get the spot you missed.

Sorry, what?

Coastal spot is good too, you will be able to get a lighthouse in with 2 fish, but you will lose a silver and a sheep, and gain a weak deer. You will not have a mountain, which is not a terrible thing, since this will most likely be a production city. I am not a fan of planting cities on special resources though (luxuries are okay). Both locs are okay I guess.

There is no special resource on the coastal location (indicated by the game). But i guess i will just settle right there so i can get the mountain

Sorry, what?

Start a new game.
Select your settler.
Press B to settle in place.

Explore the map.
Find a really nice site.
Build another settler.
Build a city there.

Settle in place. Win game in under 200 turns. You could just double DoW off the bat, and watch their armies get decimated trying to single file you through those mountains.

That's not my first city tho, my capital is up north.

Anyway, the best site is 1SE of the gems. But the settler's spot is good too, so build another settler to grab the gems and horses.

Ok go troll someplace else.

I agree with Dave McW. Why didn't you settle 1SE of the gems first? That would cut off your neighbor and you could settle a third city down where you are now. The other civ can't even get over there because of the mountains, so the southern site is not as much of a rush. If you settle the southern site first you risk having your neighbor place a city by the gems and cut you in two.

He's giving you good advice. If you are trying to move your settler so far out just to settle on the best site , then you are not playing effectively and probably not suited to play deity at all.

Hint : Your settler isn't a scout...make a real scout.

He who calls The Dave a troll is a dumbass.

And what is your 2nd settler doing there! They are not scouts.

Settle where you are. Then take 1SE of the gems as soon as possible.
Don't settle on the coast: there are no hill tiles next to the coast so your production will be one hammer less (BAD). And you will get OOR of the silver by doing that.

And as ppl have already said: those mountains are really badass. The AI is VERY unlikely to take the other route towards your city. So you can just place archers there and annihilate anything that enters the pass.

My guess is he is playing with Barbarians off. Thus, the settler scout thing.

He has a capitol way up north, why he passed up the gems spot I have no idea. I would get a settler onto that spot pronto or reload back 8 turns (4 turn autosave here) and settle those gems first.

That will probably incite Pachacuti to DoW which would seem to play right into your Mongol horde plans.

As far as the south location. I would think to settle the coast so harbor can replace the massive roads you need to trade route there.
