Where'll Rivaldo play next?

It looks like Rivaldo is finally leaving... but leaving to where? Is there any club that'd appreciate his services? I'm sure such clubs exist (in the dutch second league...) but I doubt Rivaldo sees that as 'acceptable'. Besides, I doubt if there are that many clubs that can fulfill his salary demands nowadays.

Sure, Rivaldo is a great player, but in my eyes he's a 'liability'. I know he wants to play for real madrid, but they're the last team that'd need him.

Ideas? Rumors?

I think he will end his career in Arabian Peninsula but I do not know which league. Qatar maybe. They said Besiktas and Galatasaray were interested at first. Turkish media always publish stupid rumors like these. They said Makaay was coming to Galatasaray last year.:)

There were some rumors in press that Liverpool is interested in signing him, but thankfully Houllier stated yesterday on Liverpool's Official Site that Rivaldo will definetely not move to Liverpool. They have enough problems.

I agree with jeriko one - he should follow Batistuta, Effenberg and Hierro and spend the rest of his career in some God forgotten place like Quatar or Saudi Arabia.

He should stop playing right now or go to the arabian penninsula..

Chelsea are about the only ones who could afford his wages.

Unfortunately, when I think of Rivaldo, I think of that 2002 World Cup game (v Turkey?) when someone kicked the ball towards him in order to take a corner kick. Half an hour after the ball hit him he fell down pretending he was hurt. I am sure you all remember it.

The point about his ridiculous dive was that the ball hit his knee and he went down holding his face. No worse really than many others, but perhaps we expect more of Brasilians? No offence Inter32, and I realise it is invidous to pick on Inter, but there were two appalling dives within seconds of each other in the 5-1 game and no doubt they will be largely forgotten in a couple of weeks.

How about Japan or China (if theyll take Gazza) ?

He played pretty well in the rest of the tournament though, and although age does take its toll, I would have thought he would still have quite a lot to offer quite a large number of teams. Maybe not at the Champions League level, but I'd be surprised if he couldn't add value to most of the teams in the top divisions in England, Spain, Germany and Italy.

But I guess the problem is going to be his wages.

I think he had the Evil Eye of nation with that dive.

Well, Parreira still calls Rivaldo to every brazilian match and he allways plays, so I think he'd still want to play at a good enough level, ie, not in Arabia, to keep his position in the brazilian squad. So, either he forgets about the wages and returns to Brazil where he'll be well rated or goes to a medium sized team in Europe, for example, a team in the french league or middle table in England would suit him well.

Btw, in my hometown there is a brazilian resident that comes from the same neighbourhood of Rivaldo and says he know the guy since they were kids and he swears that Rivaldo is actually 3 years older than what he's supposed to be. The practice is very common in Brazil, you might even remember former national coach Wanderlei Luxemburgo, who had to resign after a scandal where it was found he was 2 years older than officially and his age had been faked when he was a young player.

Apart from that dive.

He did play a brilliant Worldcup! Brilliant. Not just fair. He could make a difference. Who cares he was in the shade of Ronaldo?

There are only few clubs that can't use such a player!

I disagree. Sure, he can be a brilliant player when he wants to, but his demands are that high that you could get two players who could bring more to the team for the same price.

I doubt if he'll end up in Japan or Qatar though (it'd suit him), he wants to play 'for the best teams'.

You may laugh, but the last rumor about Rivaldo I've heard was about his possible coming to Russia to play for Spartak Moscow... :)
Really.

pfff, mid-table England would indeed suit him. Arabia would be if he's after the money, another team in Italy could be ok too...

I have read that three English clubs have offered for Rivaldo's services, I'd like to speculate on the 3.

I think that the clubs could be Newcastle Utd, Chelski, Tottenham, Southampton, Man City...and just to throw my club in there, Birmingham, though I doubt it.

I'm guessing Chelsea. Abramovitz obviously's got plenty of money to spend on another (faded) superstar....

yeah, although it must become pretty f*cking hard for manager and coaches to deal with so many players. By now they probably have 2-3 compatible Premier League teams.
