You know, it is really annoying and disgraceful when people laugh at other's opinions, regardless of how foolish they might be. I don't exactly think you are Mr. Wise either, you have alot to learn as well.

Age is indifferent to me, there are many intelligent teenagers, some on this forum, too. Don't get a superiority complex in the middle of a discussion.

I'll admit, you got me on that one, Ohwell. I was being annoying. But when somebody posts twaddle about how Mr. Col. Gaddafi is such a nice person, that he's just misunderstood, well, all I can think is that they are deliberately ignoring the evidence. I find that quite annoying.

To the topic of the thread: The "Axis of Evil" consisted of Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. How does that make six? I guess the others are just Axis-Wannabees? In any case, If I were to pick one to take off the list, it would probably be either Cuba or Libya. (Yes, Libya. Gaddafi is at least trying to make up for some of what he has done in the past.) But IMO, the leaders of all 5 countries deserve the same fate as Saddam.

Syria, Cuba, and Lybia are in the Axis of sorta-evil.

I've made my decision, I vote for releasing Cuba. They aren't that evil, really. At least not evil enough to do anything particularly evil. And certainly not as evil as Luxembourg.

There were other countries mentioned in the state of the union address, but only three made the exclusive axis club.

Of course, if you actually read or listened to the speech you'd realize how pointless this topic is because the president outlined plans and intentions for all three of the nations mentioned.

Only one plan included the possible use of force.

It annoys me greatly when people say they know how life works or they know what the world is like.

Have you been to Libya? Have you lived amongst the people of Lybia? Have you met Qaddafi?

You don't really know what it's like there and my bet is that no one on this forum does. All we are fed is heavily slanted news. I'm inclined to agree with our scottish socialist friend and say that our judgement of Lybia is clouded by how we receive world news.

Yes, Mr Gaddafi has performed kind of a turn-around. It looks like a turn-around, that is. Libya's secret service was highly suspected to be involved in a number of terrorist attacks in the eighties, plus supporting terrorist groups in Europe. For example, there was a bomb explosion in a discotheque in Berlin that was mostly frequented by US soldiers. Investigation had shown links to Libya and the somewhat related strike against Lybia under the Reagan administration is also well known.
In those days, Mr Gaddafi wasn't even really disclaiming to be responsible for terrorist attacks.
However, in the past few years, he became more "soft". Of course, he isn't a nice guy, but tried to offer his service as negotiator when some bi- or multi-lateral crisis occured (especially w/ middle east countries). I couldn't believe that, when I heard that for the first time. Also, his military efforts against neighboring coutries have been ceased. More money is spended on domestic issues now, such as improving infrastructure like irrigation.
For this reason, I highly doubt Libya to be a real threat. Of course, Mr Gaddafi can't "clean" his foretime, but aiming for Libya would be ridiculous in comparison to fight organisations like Al Qaida. So I'd put Libya on the earlier-sort-of-evil axis.

There may be potential with the people, however there isn't much potential with the government. Don't be fooled, they are still an unjust and cruel government.

the us hates libya because their leader gives his people a better deal and better standard of living...american leaders must have some big emotional problems if they think this.

after he chucked the oil companies out he used the oiol to make libya have the highest living standards in africa, the people there have the highest GNP. but the US still thinks its oil companies are more important than a bunch of third world children getting a good education.. that makes me sick

I would really like to see some sort of evidence to back these claims up. I will not say that I discount the power of the oil lobby in Washington, but I don't think it has much affect on our foreign policy towards Libya.

Anyway, I think Iran should be removed from the list, though it must be made clear that we seek modernization and secularization in Iran. This should help spur on the revolution that will be coming sooner or later.

Oh, and Cuba should have been removed 10 years ago or so.
