In lieu of the upcoming DLC, with an African and SE Asian Civ coming out, I was wondering which Civs people are most looking forward to coming out. Between Civ 4 and 5, we pretty much know the options...unless they keep trying too hard to come up with suprises (new Civs for new Civ sake only...I'm looking at you Scythia). I'm really hoping that the development team has learned from the vanilla errors and will make some thoughtful choices for new Civs.

You can breakdown your top 3 per region if you like. Here are mine:

Americas:
1. Incas- for obvious reasons. Having a scientific/defensive Civ that would thrive next to mountains and on hills without the need for river adjacency would be awesome.
2- Iroquois
3- Sioux
4- Apache- having three N.America tribes represented spanning the continent would be wonderful and result in Teddy actually having to compete for the continent in an Earth map.

Oceana:
Polynesians- they were a lot of fun in Civ 5; the Civ I enjoyed playing with the most towards the end

Asia:
1- Babylon...wish they were chosen over Sumeria. Another error IMO.
2- Mongols...if we are including flash in the pan Macedon and historically only significant for killings Cyrus the Great Scythia...then the largest contiguous empire ever and the founded by the most genetically fit man in history has to be as well
3- Khmer...which I think is coming up next

I don't see the Philippines or Indonesia coming out until much farther out in the future.

Africa: we've discussed this on other posts but here goes...
1- Mali...please have them over Songhai. Mansa Munsa was one of the richest kings ever.
2- Ethiopia...they could have 3 different leader options with ancient representing Axum, medieval and modern
3- Zulus...cause you gotta!

Europe:
1- Portugal...a naval and commercial rival to England, must have
2- Netherlands
3- Celts...I would rather have the Celts over Sweden. Having another option in the British isles on an earth map is great

In going to keep mine short and just name Civs.

1- Inca: My favorite civ in the franchise, being able to thrive in the mountains of civ5, growing the largest single city possible, scouting all the best terrace farm spots.
This game is not civ without the Inca IMP.

2- Portugal: money, colonies, and more money. I want to get rich off trade and use it to found numerous colonies for more money.

Americas:
1- Mayan: my favorite civ that is not yet included.
2- Incas: incredible, Incas is more than an Andean civ, is one of the most interesting civs of the game.

Africa:
1- Ethiopia: simply incredible, I want to see how it will be worked out this time.
2- Mali: a much-requested civ here, they can come guided to trade.
3- Ashanti: not yet included before, but I would love to see them in the game.
4- Morocco: I would give a fourth option to Africa, since I have only 2 for the Americas. Morocco is unique and interesting, I loved its inclusion in civ5.

Oceania:
1- Polynesia: I know it's a conglomerate civ. But I can not see Samoa or another small Polynesian state being included separately. And they are interesting in many ways, mainly due to the Moais improvements.

Asia:
1- Ottomans: one of my favorite civ
2- Khmer: one of the most much-requested civs. And they are very interesting.
3- Koreans: I want to see how they will be worked, certainly focused on science.
4- Mongois: I've added 2 more options to Asia since I have only 1 option in Oceania. Undoubtedly, they are very important. I put them bellow because Scythia already look very similar to them, but the Mongols are still among the civs that I hope the most.
5 - Babylon.

Europe:
1- Portugal / Netherlands: I could not separate them. Certainly I'm very looking forward to them. I am quite sure that they will be added with a new mechanism of colonialism.
2- Byzantines
3- Sweden: I liked their inclusion in civ5, I want to see them focused on diplomacy again

In fact, I would like to see as many civs as possible. The more civs the better. I want them to give me lots of civs, and I'll be satisfied.

Americas:
1 the Inca: an absolute top priority.
2 the Maya: also a very important civ that needs to be in the game.
3 Any Native (North) American tribe will do but my favorites are still the Iroquois.
4 Mississipi Culture Civ, problem are that there are not that many names left of leaders and places and we have to go with the modern names which has a lot negative effects like with the Scythia citylist.
5 the Inuit: This is mostly a what if one but it would be fun to have a civ that flourishes a lot (or only) in the Tundra.

Africa:
1 Ethiopia: But please focus on the ancient and medieval civilization not the modern country.
2 Mali//Songhai: One of those two because a lot of overlap there. I prefer Mali above Songhai though.
3 Something from Southern Africa. Maybe South Africa as a country is not a bad idea cause than you can have multiple leaders from different Tribes.
4 A Swahili Civ with a Kilwa leader maybe
5 Ashanti/Yoruba or any other one from southwest coastal Africa.
After that then I'm ok with more Northern African civs like Morocco or Carthage.

Oceania:
1 the Polynesians are a blob civ but I don't think thats the only way to get them in game, maybe this time more focused on the Maori in stead of the Hawaiians..

Asia:
1 Mongolia: The biggest empire there ever was on this earth, they really should be in game.
2 the Ottomans: They had a huge impact on the Middle East and on Europe and Turkey as their legacy state is still around.
3 Khmer: Angkor Wat , need I say more.
4 Korea: They come without a doubt in my mind, (way to many gamer/buyers there to exclude them from civ 6)
5 Malay/Indonesia: Now split over two countries but the Malay had a big trade empire before the Portuguese,Dutch and English came along.
But Asia has so many interesting civs left, we need more than 5 so just out of the top 5 are Babylon, Israël, Vietnam, Thailand and Tibet.

Europe:
1 Netherlands: Explorers (from Nova Zembla to New Zealand), Landshapers (Polders, Flowerfields, Delta Works) , Painters (Rembrandt, Vermeer, van Gogh), Traders (first Stock Exchange, East India Company, Amsterdam Canals) , Colonialists (Americas, Africa, Asia)
2 Portugal: Almost the same points as above, also colonies all over the world, Explorers like Magalhães, Bartolomeu Dias, and the famous Torre de Belém.
3 Celts/Ireland/Scotland/Gaul: The Blob civ isn't ideal but Scotland was for the most part anglicized way to early to still count as a replacement for the Celts, Ireland on it's own didn't have that a big an impact and Gaul was only interesting during the Roman conquest and afterwards were integrated into the Roman Empire. And still the Celts as a whole (including all the other tribes) had a huge impact on ancient Europe. So give them an Irish and a Gaulish leader with two different abilities .
4 Italy: Based on the Renaissance countries (Florence, Milan, Naples, Venice, Genoa) in the current Italian republic. They have done this with Germany since Civ 1 so why not with Italy. Depending the leader you choose the capital is different than Rome.
5 Sweden In the 17th century became the supreme leader in the area around the Baltic Sea (and even started to colonize for a short while) until the end of the Great Northern War in 1721 when Russia took over as the most powerful in the Baltic Sea area.
Other options are Austria, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, Bohemia.

Africa:
1. Mali: I'm just a big fan of this country, it's history, architecture and music
2. Ethiopia: a truly unique culture, in ancient times as well as medieval times as well as today
3. Nubia: it's often overshadowed by its neighbors Egypt and Aksum, but it really shouldn't. Fascinating culture.
4. Ashanti: We didn't see too much West Africa yet
5. Morocco: I welcomed their entry to the series in civ V and I hope they come again. Very interesting history and it could go in many directions, fascinating country even today.
6. Dahomey: One of the more forgotten empires, I think an introduction to civ could help this one a lot to find its place in popular culture.
- not looking that much forward to Carthage or the Zulus tbh.

Asia:
1. Hittites: I'm a bronze age guy and they are (understandably) often forgotten. But 'understandably' doesn't mean it's a shame. And then there's Babylon and Assur form the Iron Ages...
2. Khmer: a real medieval SEA civ. Fills a geographical niche and could come with quite interesting abilities and one of the wonders that seem to be the biggest omissions
3. Indonesia: We need a real thalassocracy, and besides maybe the Hanse which won't be included and Venice that we had, this is probably the most interesting one in world history.
4. Burma: Mostly just because their building style is so impressive tbh
5. Mongols: Conquering the world with another civ that is focussed on that besides Alexander. I wouldn't welcome Mongols that much if they focused on other things.
- not looking that much forward to Korea, Siam or Vietnam. Also not a big fan of the Ottomans, but they will surely come and I'll play them at least once as well.

Oceania:
- not looking forward to a Polynesia, Maori or Aborigines civ

Americas:
1. Maya: For me, the most important and interesting American civ.
2. Mapuche: Not very likely to happen, but I think this would be a great first.
3. Inca: Overrated in popular history, but nonetheless one of the more interesting civs of South America.
4. Argentina: My #1 post colonial civ.
- not looking forward that much to the North American Native civs or a Canada civ

Europe:
1. Netherlands: rich, interesting history and I'd like to play as them
2. Portugal: same as above
3. Switzerland: would bring some great potential when it comes to civ design and I think it's due to happen sooner or later
4. Sweden: intersting history and a renaissance power that is often a bit forgotten
5. Denmark: this could go multiple ways. I don't think it would be a mistake to have 3 Scandinavian civs, and including two of them is a must when total civs is ~45 or more.
6. Italy: I've been waiting for this for a long time.
7. Byzantine Empire: Maybe some new religious mechanics in the expansions can bring this civ to live.
- not looking forward that much to other Eastern European civs

Breaking civs down into regions that make sense to me in a cultural and geographical sense (and a bit of gerrymandering to make my choices go as far as possible :) ), these are my top threes:-

East Asia

1) Khmer
2) Indonesia
3) Korea

The Khmer and their architectural prowess are my favourite candidate for the currently unrepresented Southeast Asia region. They should have barays as unique Aqueducts to provide their empire with a lot of food, and have some sort of bonus towards district production or culture and faith to represent their stunning temples.

Indonesia were a great new addition in Civ V, and an island-based civ focussed on trading luxury resources would be nice.

Finally, Korea and their turtle ships have always been a favourite of mine since Age of Empires II :), I'm aware the Mongols have missed ut, and I would like to see them, but given Scythia tread on their horse-archer rush toes, it's harder to prioritise them.

Middle East / North Africa
1) Ottomans
2) Carthage
3) Morocco

The Ottomans are such an important and powerful civilisation that their addition will be a no-brainer. We already have janissaries after all... These guys should have a bonus to managing a large empire with conquered and settled cities.

Carthage would be a fine addition as an early naval power, and I'd love to see their fortified harbours as districts on the map.

Morocco is a fascinating and rich culture- as well as the obvious trading bonuses we saw in Civ V, some sort of faith-based military would be a good representation of the medieval Berber caliphates of the Almohads and Almoravids.

Sub-Saharan Africa
1) Mali
2) Ethiopia
3) Zulu

Mali is my most-wanted Civ bar none. They truly deserve to be returning staples of the series, with trans-desert trade routes based on gold and salt. Musa is a great choice for such a personality-focussed game. I'd like to see some new West African civ like the Ashanti, but think Mali deserve to come first.

Ethiopia is an ancient civilisation that comes as close to spanning the duration of a typical civ game (a self-governing entity from the D'mt in 800BC to the present day). Geographically both the probable origin of both coffee and the human species, they should no doubt be a Civ staple as well. Faith and defence are their obvious foci, as in Civ V.

And I know the Zulu have their opponents, but if we only get three African civs, these represent a good spread of geography and play styles. Not a priority given our current number of warmongers, but I'd like to see them eventually.

North America
1) Haudenosaunee
2) Haida
3) Muscogee

The Haudenosaunee (let's not call them the Iroquois for once :p) may have been what we got in Civ V, but their confederacy is an interesting concept to build a civ around. Perhaps some Diplomatic bonus around City-States.

Otherwise the North American continent is ripe for exciting fresh additions: the Haida with their stunning artwork and intimidating armoured warriors can offer a fresh play style based on hunting and fishing (Camp and Coastal bonuses would be appropriate)

I've seen the Muscogee/Creek suggested in this forum a few times as (I believe) the successors of the mound-building cultures, and I think they'd be a good addition representing the Southeast for a change. Another good candidate for NA who just missed my top 3 are the Inuit, for some hardcore snow-settling (after the excellent Civ V mod)

Central & South America

1) Inca
2) Maya
3) Tupi

With no native South American civ in game, the Inca are a must. Mountain and hill bonuses, of course.

After that, the Maya are a fascinating Mesoamerican culture that should get science bonuses.

To give an underrepresented region some more indigenous colour, I would like to see the Tupi. They could be the jungle civ that finally turns those tiles into productive land :)

Oceania
1) Hawai'i
2) Maori

Civ V was right to finally add some form of Polynesian civilisation to the game, but the resulting blob civ was a mess. I doubt we'll see another two civs from the region, but Australia should get a native counterpart. I think Hawai'i probably comes closest to a Civ-style civilisation, and would inherit the ocean-going island hoping abilities of Civ V's Polynesians.

The Maori would be a more militaristic counterpart that would be quite interesting. I think their inclusion is a long-shot, however. Hence I've not even bothered with a third choice :p. An Australian Aboriginal civ would be interesting, as they are culture that has lasted so long it's incredible, but they'd be quite difficult to fit within Civ VI's mechanics.

Europe
1) Portugal
2) Gauls
3) Georgia

Europe is overrepresented, but that's because there are a lot of good candidates on this cramped continent. I'd like to see more Civs from other regions first, but I had a hard job narrowing this down to three.

A naval colonisation specialist (hopefully with expanded colonisation mechanics) is something we should see. I think an implementation of Civ V's Feitoria should return, with a civ that can build things in friendly lands. They'd also have some exploration and navigation bonus. This slot could also go to the Netherlands, who would have some economic bonus, and of course, Polders would be great to see in Civ VI's map.

Some classical Northern Europe representation would be good. No "Celtic" blob, but a more focussed Gaul: metalworking bonuses and fortified oppida are good suggestions I've seen on this forum.

Lastly, another cultural and religious powerhouse: I plumped for the interesting new addition of Georgia over the old staples. But Byzantium is a tempting option here too, and I think expanded Religion mechanics would pave the way for a fascinating Papal State civ.

We badly need a Native American civ. I'd prefer to see someone new (ideally the Tlingit); the Iroquois would be acceptable but I'd rather see the Powhatan for a political/diplomatic Native American civ; and God forbid we see the Sioux.

I'm really looking forward to Korea's return, ideally under the leadership of Queen Seondeok.

I'd also like to see the Caucasus finally get representation, either via Armenia or Georgia. Some people seem to want to lump them into Europe--I suppose because they're Christian and because they are now members of the EU--but honestly they've always had more cultural and political affinity with the Near East and Central Asia.

They aren't. There is merely an association agreement, like with Egypt, Israel, Chile, Turkey and many other countries not in Europe.
I knew there was some association with the EU, but I wasn't familiar with the particulars. Either way, IMO neither Georgia nor Armenia are "European."

Americas:
Gran Columbia: A good post-Columbian Latin America rep. and if Macedon flash in the pan gets in...
Cherokee: Always loved the history of the Cherokee, also I want a U.S. native civ that isn't the stereotypical Great Plains ones
Sioux: I also want the stereotypical Great Plains ones

Asia:
Mongols: Them not being in is a crime, 2nd largest empire in history.
Khazars: I just really like steppe nomads, never can have enough
Indonesia: Fills in a really nice TSL niche

Africa:
Ethiopia: One of my favorite civilizations to read the history of, fascinating. Just have Menelik II ruler instead this time eh?
Mali: Like it better than Songhai or Ghana
South Africa: Perfect for a two leader civ, one European one African. Throw in a Boer War scenario pack as well.

Europe:
Germany: Led by Otto von Bismarck, rename the old German civ as "Holy Roman Empire" and give it a new unique unit since the U-Boat will be transferred to this civ.
Venice: One City Challenge the Civ needs a come-back
Austria: One of the old Great Powers, just because it was a push-over by the time of WWI doesn't erase the past.
(I didn't put Byzantium since I would prefer Rome to get Constantine as a second leader that makes the capital Constantinople)

Korea: Hwacha, turtle ships, defensive, scientific, cultural bonuses. Maybe we'll see some Hwarang archers this time around as well, and a new leader. I love Korea--it's the plucky underdog of the Far East.

Mali: Mansa Musa, gold and faith, Islamic and African religion mixing in peaceful and glorious harmony.

Khazars: For the Jewish religion if nothing else. Culturally they do seem a bit similar to other nations/civs in that area, but they were worthy rivals of the Byzantine Empire.

Mayans: Easy civ to get another warrior queen in, and the science bonuses should be cool, though I would like to see some new twists on them that distinguish them from the Aztecs.

Maori: Too fascinating to completely exclude, and given that Civ has never gloried only large empires, the seafaring conquering culturally advanced Maori should get a go this time. The music, the art, and the leader would be amazing.

Dahomey: Another lore-rich African civ that would do well with a warrior queen. The War of the Golden Stool would make for an excellent, educational, anti-colonial scenario as well (too many Civ scenarios have us play the colonizing powers. Especially each and every New World scenario, ever.)

Majapahit: A fascinating and powerful seafaring nation that was given some light in V in the form of Gajah Mada, but something a bit more sea-focused (but with flexibility elsewhere) would be a nice inclusion.

As for Europe, I'm tired of Europe. Sorry. We especially don't need more tiny nations like Switzerland in the mix if it means Switzerland takes the place of some nation like Mali, for example. Hopefully the developers see sense. #civsowhite.

North america

Seminole- Why haven't we had a southeastern tribe before?
Haida or Tlingit- I would like to see Firaxis finally do a pacific north west group
Navajo- Since we can't do the Pueblo, the Navajo is the next best thing
Maya- they are a must for this series
Sioux- I like to see there return.

South america

Inca- a very unique civ
Gran Colombia- a Latin american independence movement civ should be fun and who wouldn't want to play a Simon Bolivar?

Africa

Ashanti- there introduction is long over due
Mali- Mansa Musa should return
Ethiopia-
Boer- Why not?
Zulu- They are a given
Carthage Hannibal needs to return

Asia

Khmer empire- I do want to see there return, best southeast Asian empire
Burma- I prefer them to come in this game than Siam
Korea- of course
Indonesia- I like to see their return
Mongolia-2nd largest empire in history
Akkadian empire- Sargon's entry in the Civ games is long overdue
Babylon- They must be Automatically in the game

Europe
Netherlands- the Netherlands is my first choice for a European civ
Italy- Renaissance Italy or the Italian unification based civ
Portugal- Once the most powerful empire and of course it's role in the Age of exploration
Ottoman- Bring back Sulieman or maybe Ataturk (even though he ended the Ottoman Empire and made Turkey)
Finland- A good Modern Civ
Byzantine- a medieval leader or Justinan/Theodora's return
Hungary- an old Magyar era Hungary

Americas:

1. Algonquin, as alternative to the Iroquois.
2. Haida, because I think they'd be pretty cool to have in Civ, and they'd occupy a new area on a TSL Earth. Certainly not the most famous civilization out there so I doubt it'll happen. But if it happens, maybe they could capture naval units like the Ottomans in civ 5.
3. Inuit, because they're really the best candidate for a tundra civ.
4. Inca, since they were fun to play as in Civ 5, they're interesting, and they wouldn't be a bad choice imo.

Europe:

1. Iceland, my favourite country! Would be good as an alternative tundra civ to Inuit.
2. Italy, I know there is Rome already, but like someone said above, there are different options for city capitals and leaders, and it's different enough to warrant both civs being in the game imo.
3. Portugal, perhaps trade route bonuses and something to do with colonies on other continents.

Africa:

1. Ethiopia/Axum, maybe alternate leaders to represent different time periods
2. Mali, of course, Mansa Musa's wealth etc. as the reason lol
3. Madagascar. I know they won't be in the game, since they weren't very influential in history compared to other civs; maybe if Civ 6 creators decided to fit as many civs into the game as possible, then Madagascar would be fun. I think it would be a pretty cool thing to see, definitely a unique option. In fact, I think I'll try to make a mod for them. Even though Antananarivo is a city-state, there are other options for capitals based on which leader you choose.

Asia:

1. Korea, not as a science civ because that'd be unfair for other civs probably, but still, many options for different aspects of a civ if they bring back Korea.
2. Ryukyu, would be cool alongside Japan. Doubt it'll happen.
3. Sri Lanka/Anuradhapura, just for fun :p (like Ryukyu, doubt it'll happen!)

Australia/Oceania:

1. Some Aboriginal Australian civ would be quite interesting. Hopefully not as an alternate leader for Australia though, because that'd be BOOOORING!
2. New Zealand, with a Maori leader and a modern-day leader.
3. Not a grouped Polynesia. Polynesia was fun to play as, but I don't want it to be a bunch of grouped cultures together that have never historically been together. But at the same time, I don't think Civ will introduce a small island culture to the game opposed to the many other options they have for potential civs.

Sioux: I also want the stereotypical Great Plains ones
We can still have a Plains culture if we must without bringing in the Sioux. How about the Blackfoot? (Strictly speaking, the Blackfoot were a Plateau tribe, but they were heavily, heavily influenced by Plains culture.) Or the Crow, who are Siouan without being Lakota/Dakota/Assiniboine.

@Morningcalm I was going to like your post, but the "civsowhite" hashtag sort of makes me want to incite violence at this point. I agree with the rest of your post, though. :p Personally, Europe isn't so much overrepresented as the rest of the world is underrepresented; the European nations that have been included so far (except Australia and Macedon) pretty much make sense for inclusion...they just should have been spread out over more time so we could have more non-European civilizations up front.

OK, here is what I don't want first:
1. Blob civs - no Celts, Polynesians and stuff like that
2. Short-lived artificial civs, or non-civ civs - no Holy Roman Empire, Timurids and stuff like that
3. Civs that don't have good components, especially those without at least half-decent city lists, so I will not be one of those rooting for the inclusion of the Inuits, or the Blackfoot, or the Huns, or whatever

Having said that, here is what I want per continent:

Europe:
Must haves:
1. Hungary - I think the people of Hungary would never play Civ again if their country is overlooked for the sixth time
2. Sweden - I know, some of you are like "but we already have a Scandinavian civ"... Yeah, but how can you compare Viking Norway with Sweden which is more Renaissance-Enlightenment era oriented? Not the same
3. Netherlands - An important player in Europe that should be included
4. Portugal - Another great empire
5. Bulgaria - Another one that is constantly overlooked
Not bad to have:
1. Austria - Austria is NOT Germany, it was an empire and a power in its own right, and eventually remained a separate country with its own Austrian culture
2. Denmark - Not just Vikings, and an option for a female leader (Margaret)
3. Lithuania - Would love to have them alongside Poland
4. Romania - Could be interesting
5. Venice - But NOT as a city-state, they had other cities, and controlled lots of territory
6. Scotland - Would love to see a proper Scottish civ
Other interesting options for civs, that are of low priority:
Ukraine, Ireland, Florence, Sicily, Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Belgium, Switzerland, Czechia, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Khazaria, Britania (Iceni and others), Wales, Gaul

Asia:
Must haves:
1. Mongolia - They're not the exception in this case (if you get the reference)
2. Korea - Another must have
3. Cambodia - The Khmer were a great civ that needs to be included
4. Babylonia - How can there be a Civ game without them, and how is Sumer better?
5. Turkey - Yeah, I mean the Ottomans, but they should be called Turks
6. Armenia - The Turks might not like it, but Armenia was a huge power and the first country to officially convert to Christianity, they are more important than what people think
Not bad to have:
1. Assyria - Yeah, we have Sumer, and we need Babylonia, but Assyria should also be in the game
2. Byzantium - Another important empire, even though it would bring the number of Greek-speaking civs to three (but this is not Byzantium's fault, why do we need a separate Macedon is beyond me)
3. Hatti - Yeah, they're also in Turkey, but there is so much you can do with the Hittites as a civ
4. Indonesia - It may be a blob civ, but this is a blob I'm willing to accept, like India
5. Thailand - Another important South-East Asian country with a long history
6. Georgia - Hail King Tamar!
7. Myanmar - Another unexplored area in South-East Asia
8. Nabataea - A huge player in Ancient times, built Petra, conquered stuff
9. Israel - Ancient Israel, that is
10. Uzbekistan - Because I want it!
Other interesting options for civs, that are of low priority:
Tibet, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Oman, Phoenicia, Afghanistan, Akkad, Philippines, Sri Lanka

Africa:
Must haves:
1. Mali - I would like to see a civ that combines the Mali empire with the Songhai empire
2. KwaZulu - A Civ game without the Zulu?
3. Carthage - Another important ancient civ
4. Ethiopia - Perhaps the most important of Africa's civs, besides Egypt
Not bad to have:
1. Dahomey - Voodoo shrines, Amazons, lots of interesting history
2. Morocco - They are quite unique among the North Africans
3. Madagascar - I'm sure that many people would find it interesting and refreshing
Other interesting options for civs, that are of low priority:
Hausa, South Africa, Kanem-Bornu, Ashanti, Ndongo (Njinga Mbande), Nubia, Somalia

North America:
Must haves:
1. Haudenosaunee - Because the Iroquois had a confederacy, and they were super important in North American history
2. Maya - Somewhat of a blob, because there was no unified Maya empire, but still, the city-states of the Maya have to be in civ
Not bad to have:
1. Haida Nation - The best west coast choice, they have all the necessary components, and compiling a city list for them should be possible
2. Taino - There was never a representation for the Carribbean
3. Cherokee Nation - Another great Native American option for a civ
Other interesting options for civs, that are of low priority:
Haiti, Shawnee, Canada, Mexico, Sioux, Pueblo, Mississippi, Tolteca

South America:
Must haves:
1. Tawantinsuyu - Of course we need the Inca!
Not bad to have:
1. Muisca - Better than Gran Colombia, a native empire that flourished in the region and is overlooked for some reason
Other interesting options for civs, that are of low priority:
Gran Colombia, Argentina

Oceania
Must haves:
1. Hawaii - Not Polynesia, but a separate Hawaii civ
2. Aotearoa - Also, we need a separate civ for the Maori
Not bad to have:
1. Tonga - What? Tonga? Yes! Tonga! They were also an empire, and even though they seem small and insignificant on the global scale, we are looking for those who were huge in their region, so they should be a welcome addition
Other interesting options for civs, that are of low priority:
Rapa Nui (Easter Island civilization)

Please, before me move on to all of these tribal civ's that never made it past pointy sticks and rain dances, let's get some of the actual empires out there--industrious civ's that had a professional military, that engineered ways to control their environments, the came up with a legal system and hard currency. All that good stuff.

The title of the thread asks me what civ's I'm looking forward to, which is not wish-listing because it implies reasonable expectations. The Mongols and Ottomans are obvious choices and missing favorites. Their absence is glaring. Wouldn't mind seeing Carthage return with some mountain-traversing ability. Speaking of mountains, the Inca were a favorite of mine in Civ V, and I would happily waive any admonition on stick-n'-rock civ's to see terrace-farming return. Basically, any civ that springboards an idea for interacting with the map terrain in interesting ways is welcome above all else.

As for wish-listing, the Mughals/Timurids would be near the top. Maybe spin the Safavids off on their own. Guess I would just like to see that innovative, wall-busting era of gunpowder get some prominence.

Khmer and Vietnam would be good choices as well. With Khmer, you have those gigantic barays that could act like aqueducts with a regional effect, supplying fresh water to all nearby cities. With Vietnam, you have their history of guerilla warfare and great generals. Had posted idea for both of these civ's in the Ideas & Suggestions forum, but the Australia DLC actually took bites out of both of them.

Here's mine:

Africa:
Ashanti
-a major power in that part of West Africa, kente cloth for the win!
Benin (the one in Nigeria)-the Edo were a regional power in pre-colonial Nigeria. I like their Bronzes.
Carthage-a legacy of Phoenician colonization
Dahomey-Fon culture, Amazons
Ethiopia-Long history from Dmt
Hausa-major people in the east Sahara, plus Queen Amina
Madagascar-unique linguistically in Africa, gotten admire the navigation skills of the ancient Borneans
Mali-Saharan Empire representative
