Which game do you think is more fun to play? I personally like RTW better than M2TW, although M2 does have much better graphics.

I like the setting of RTW better, though the ability to play the Romaioi in M2TW is awesome. This opinion will change in about a year when EB2 comes out. :D

There's something stiff about R:TW, that I can't put my finger on, that makes it weird. I can't explain it. Like the color of the background or something.

Though both are going to be severely outclassed by Empire: Total War, anyhow.

I hope so. If I don't get to do my Stormaktstid in a fashion that I enjoy I shall be severely disappointed.

I hate agents in M2TW, there were simply too many of them, crawling all over the map. RTW map on the other hand is way simpler and to the point. I heard Empire is not going to have any agent, which is great news.
There is also something wrong with M2TW battles, I am not sure what it is, but it just doesn't feel as epic or as involving as the RTW battles, despite having hugely improved graphics. Calvary units seemed sluggish and have a few seconds of timing delay from when you issued your command.

Gentlemen and rakes.

In R:TW, do units halt in front of your lines and allow themselves to be massacred by your missiles like they do in M2:TW?

Sometimes. The battle AI is less than intelligent.

Don't worry, you'll get to Charles XII the hell out of Russia. ;)

no poll?

Like the time period of M2TW better

They still do this sometimes, especially if you have long range missle and the AI does not have anything to counter this, it will apparent not know what to do and just sit there waiting to get slaughtered. But this happens a lot less frequent in RTW than M2TW.

Another huge problem with M2TW is pathfinding AI during seige. The computer apparently could not figure out how to get an army through the gate and into the city. It will send your troops on a nice walk around the city wall.

It depends - if I had to choose one, I'd choose Rome, but that's probably in part because I'm playing it now! M2TW was very fun when I was playing it, too. I also rather liked that Italy didn't entirely dominate in RTW, although I suppose that's rather to be expected. Playing an Italian faction, it's kind of fun that that is likely to happen.

They really are pretty similar, though. I could be happy playing either one. And if you had a mod that set one in a different time period, I might not know which one I was playing.

Personally love the RTW mod over the MTW. Most of the countries in MTW are about as big as they were in real life. I love playing as the romans, conquering the mediteranian with the feeling of manifest Destiny. You just don't get that from MTW. Although, it is sick to fight a horde of Timurids with two byzantine Armies =)

My complaint about M2TW may sound ridiculous:

you know how M2TW has done away with the clone armies of RTW so that one archer won't look exactly the same as the other archer? He may look a little different, have slightly different helmet and so on. That's great but it also makes it a lot more difficult to tell what an unit is at a glance. Sometimes it is so confusing I can't even tell my troops from my enemy's troops.

O_o

You need glasses.

I prefer M2:TW because the game isn't based around one faction. RTW was unplayable without a mod.

Until I play ETW, Rome is my favorite. It's 2 exps and M2 and the M2 Exp just never matched it. I don't know why.
