As a french, seeing a skin head Joan makes me laugh my ass out, we can effectively picture her militarist/religious zelotry as a skin head. And for people (like me) who plays RPG there is a french rpg "In Nomine Satanis/Magna Veritas" in which Forces of Good battle Forces of Evil, and in this game there is a right (extreme right) wing Archengel (Daniel) who is the Blessed Protector of the skin-head. I know this game was translated in the US, but in a more politicaly correct version. Who at Firaxis played this game, i wonder.

I always figured she was shaved because of the fact her style of military dress, particularly in the Middle Ages and the Industrial age. My guess is that a modern rendition would be to present her as a mere grunt soldier, dressed as though she were on base but not deployed(to explain the shaved head).
