I made a terrible mistake of watching Sound of Thunder on TV the other day. IMDB score of 4.1 is generous.
With all the great Hollywood budget, you'd think they could find somebody better than a highschool dropout with FAS to write their script, but obviously that's too much to ask for.

Avoid this rubbish like a plague. No redeeming quality whatsoever.

 @ Yeek

District 9 - loved the hell out of it even thought i think its weird as hell that a fuel source can change you into a completely different alien species but i hope they make a sequel

Bad Santa - i really liked i got choked up at the end when the cops shot him i dont know why i never watched this movie before

Body of Lies - Seriously very good movie i really would recommend it to everyone

Inglorious Basterds - i cant even describe how much i liked this movie its just very awesome

:agree:

Just saw it today. It's not Jeremy Brett, but it was entertaining. The way Holmes and Watson play off each other is borderline comedic. I couldn't help thinking that Downey's Holmes is what we might see if David Tennant met Hugh Laurie.

Funny People

Alright. It went on for far too long. Its a good thing Eric Bana played such a good part because he was pretty much the only reason I was compelled to hang on for the last hour. There were some priceless scenes, the best being the Eminem/Ray Romano scene. I get the feeling this movie was a bit self indulgent for Apatow, now that he can make whatever the hell he wants.

Red Dawn
I was inspired to watch this by the campaign in Modern Warfare 2. From beginning to end it was hilariously bad, but strangely compelling at the same time. From the first scene where pajama'd Cubans are paradropped in to blow up the local jocks at the High School, I knew I was in for a treat. The dialogue is absolutely shocking. My favourite bit is where the two main protagonists have a heart to heart with their dad through the fence of the local re-education camp, and while they're leavingthe Dad takes a notion to go crazy and roar "Avenge Me!" repeatedly. They were being all hush hush about a few seconds earlier. :crazyeye:

I think the 80s is fast becoming my favourite movie decade.

Inglorious Basterds- Absolutely hilarious. I only had a scant notion what this movie was about before I started watching it. Must see for everyone that isn't squeaminsh and isn't offended with the notion of the mass murder and torture of Nazis.

Funny People- The first half was great and jam packed with jokes. Awesome, especially if you like stand up. Then it turned into the average sappy Adam Sandler vehicle. It just kept going and going and seemed to lack any jokes in the last half hour or so. I can't wait until Seth Rogen stops being in movies.

Star Trek- I will probably never watch another Star Trek film because of this movie. If they guy that made this movie, made the Hobbit which comes out next year, Bilbo Baggins would ride Smaug to Mt. Doom and drop the One ring in himself as he quips some snappy one-liner about how he created a new timeline. Whoopie.

Whatever Works- Larry David in a Woody Allen movie. It has a lot of subtle humor, a little sappy, and will p/o some christians and homophobes. I liked it and thought it ended well, but no one else I watched it with did. I'm a big fan of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Woody Allen, so if you like both of those guys or need a date movie it works.

Taking Woodstock- I thought this was a comedy, it isn't. It is a long and boring movie about some gay guy, played by Dmitri Martin, organizing Woodstock. It is not funny or charming. Do not watch. You will just waste two and a half hours of your life.

I watched it this morning, and thought it was very good. I thought it raised some good and interesting points, particularly in the first scene Brad Pitt was in. It was a bit gruesome in parts, though, and the beginning was rather sad, and would've been an excellent introduction to a more serious movie.

I watched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie yesterday with some friends. We spent most of the time riffing on it. The Pink Ranger still steals my heart though.

Up and down, up and down, up and down...

Inglorious Basterds was great.. I watched it in installments.

the guy who plays the 'Jew Hunter' absolutely steals the movie. he got nominated for a Golden Globe and I'm betting he will win Best Oscar for Supporting Actor as well.

I bought myself a ps3 for christmas, which means that I can finally watch blue rays on either of my 42 inch 1080p displays.

I watched Terminator 2, Total Recall, and Stargate.

The last 2 seemed really dated - but still awesome.. Terminator 2 in 1080p blew me away, though.

True story.

So, that first scene: great scene or greatest scene?

Been watching a lot of movies recently.

Drag Me To Hell
Really liked this movie. Expected to like it too. I'm a big Evil Dead fan and enjoyed this movie for what it was - essentially a modern reimagining of the original Evil Dead with a different plot elements. It illustrated for me what real horror is about - what you don't see, rather thatn all that gory bs you see in the likes of Final Destination or Saw.

Up In The Air
George Clooney is awesome. I would. Go watch this movie now, smart dialogue and and great performances all round. Danny McBride was surprisingly dramatic. If I have one fault about this movie its that I found it near impossible to believe that Clooney's character was in any way related to his family. I guess it illustrated how apart he is from the family but still, I just couldn't buy it.

Zombieland
It is what it is. As a nerd, I love zombie movies and of course I enjoyed this one. Whats not to like? Awesome cameo in it too.

agree on all points, though I haven't seen Up in the Air. however, my cousin who is a director and has worked in movies all his life gave it a high recommendation over christmas.

Zombieland was just fun and fun, and the 'cameo' was AWESOME!

Drag Me to Hell was exactly what I wanted. sooooo good to see that one of the old school masters of 'horror' hasn't lost his touch, and that at least somebody out there still knows how to make a good movie in this genre with a modest budget and a script that still touches on real life.

True story.

oh yeah, definitely the best scene in the movie. or, did you mean 'greatest scene' in a larger sense? I'd say it was definitely a scene to remember, and certainly one that will be discussed in many a film school.. Tarantino is one of those directors who has been able to put together quite a few scenes like that in his career. of course the final shot of the girl running in the doorway is homage to several classic films. I believe John Ford deserves credit for the original, though I can't place the film.

the scene in the bar was also very good.

and I really liked all the scenes with the Jewess owner of the theater. there's just a certain 'something' about actresses who don't live in L.A. or N.Y. that you can't find anywhere else, wouldn't you say?

oooh, has anyone seen The Red Baron ?

it's a German film (also has one of the guys from Inglorious Basterds), yet strangely the dialogue is mostly in English. that is maybe the only problem with the film.. I think the actors may have been more at home in German.

however, it was a really good movie. surprisingly faithful to the real Baron Von Richthofen, and an excellent war film with some subtle yet powerful insights into the stupidity and waste of WW1.

but the best part is the AMAZING WW1 dogfight scenes. really stunning work here. my favorite videogame when I was a kid was Wings on the Amiga, and I have been longing to see proper WW1 dogfighting scenes on film for over 20 years!

The Red Baron finally fulfilled that wish.

What?! You mean you didn't enjoy Flyboys :mischief:

But seriously, I'm gonna check out The Red Baron. :goodjob:

I finally saw Avatar last night.

It was a nasty hybrid child of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings (especially Return of the King), Apocalypse Now, and Pocohantas. Really just a disappointment and a waste of money. It was entertaining as hell for the last 30 minutes, but before that it was just over-thought of, weird alien porn, and stupid philosophical sayings. It also was also 30 minutes longer than needed. Second biggest disappointment of the year behind District 9, but at least D9 can be viewed again.

Angels & Demons
Pretty much nothing happened in the movie that made even the smallest lick of sense.

I saw Invictus. It was predictable, but very entertaining and well acted nevertheless. A few days before that, I saw Blood Diamond, which was a fantastic movie.

I saw American Beauty last night, and I thought it was really good. Particularly in the way it allowed you to simultaneously build empathy and disgust for every character, including the closet gay Marine guy who beats his son.
