Which Movies Have You Seen Lately? VI - The Sequel Five Sequels in the Making

How can you rate 10 things i hate about you higher then zombieland?
Zombieland has Bill Murray!!!

Just finished A Clockwork Orange

As I said with 2001: A Space Odyssey, very strange and weird, yet very good at the same time.

Before this film, I never knew how well ultraviolence and Beethoven mixed together.

Citizen Kane - Awesome.

I just saw Orlando with Tilda Swinton. It's an unusual gender bender movie which is very visually appealing. The story doesn't make a lot of sense sometimes but its apparently based on a Virginia Woolf novel which I've never read or even heard of before.

Queen Elizabeth I is played by Quentin Crisp who I hadn't heard of before but apparently he's a really camp gay man.

Another thing, part of it was filmed in Uzbekistan, how many movies can say that?

Just finished watching Full Metal Jacket

I absolutely loved the first half, the boot camp half. It lived up to everything I've come to know of a Kubrick film.

Now the second half, when they actually go to Vietnam, was kinda strange. There was no real "point" to it, I mean, it was disjointed and didn't really feel like it was going anywhere, and ended on a strange note.

Overall, it felt like it wasn't so much a full complete movie, but rather two films mashed into one. And the latter film not really deserving the tile of film, but rather, war footage, or something like that.

maybe thats the idea.... the vietnam war or any war is kind of pointless...

most of the soldiers are clueless about who they are fighting.

500 Days of Summer. It was annoying at best, depressing at worst, and the "clever" ending was so obvious I hated myself.

Roxanne, a Cyrano de Bergerac retell from the 80s. It was actually pretty good, harmless quiet little movie. I had to block from my mind some embarrassing moments, but that's how it often is.

Pay attention to the lighting. The movie was famous because Kubrick was able to shoot in all these period buildings with 100% natural lighting, which is friggen shweet.

It said in the paper that he lent some supersensitive camera from NASA to be able to shoot the indoor scenes where the only source of light were candles. :D

I enjoyed 500 days of summer, very sweet movie for a night with the girlfriend.

I just watched Sin Nombre (2009) which is about Central Americans going through Mexico with the goal of entering the USA. A lot of it involves the really violent Mara Salvatrucha gang. It's a violent movie but very interesting and worth watching I thought.

Pedantic like a boss.

Anyways I watched Exit Through The Gift Shop. It's made by English street artist Banksy and concerns the exploits of a mad Frenchman (Dr. Brainwash, or Thierry Guetta) who lives in LA. He is compelled to film every moment of his life on camera, usually from a first person perspective. Due to this compulsion he ends up filming the underground world of street art and even gives it a go himself.

Excellent film, I was only going to give it a quick look and it drew me in so I ended up watching it all. Don't get too hung up on whether its fictional or not, just enjoy it for what it is.

I enjoyed 500 days of summer, very sweet movie for a night with the girlfriend.

Well, I have to admit it's very mood dependent. I didn't watch it with a girlfriend, but it brought back some memories of my ex, so that might explain something ;)

I tried watching Naan Kadavul which is an Indian movie about aghori Hindus. I thought it was going to be a somewhat serious movie but after watching about 30 minutes of it I saw that it was utter crap and stopped watching it.

Finally wrote down my thoughts on Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) and posted them on my blog. Writing about movies you've seen 3 weeks prior is kinda hard! :D

You can always watch again to freshen your memory :P

The Backup Plan- :suicide: Incredibly boring and unrealistic. Some funny scenes with Anthony Anderson prevents me from grouping it with the worst of movies but still pretty bad. 1/4
Inglorious Basterds- Absolutely amazing movie. Very surprised by how much I ended up liking it. 4/4
Cimarron- If you like old (and by old I mean ancient) westerns and haven't seen this than watch it, otherwise it won't do anything for you. For history buffs it is apparently very realistic of how the white settlement and development of Oklahoma occurred. 3/4
Winter's Bone- Meh. 2/4
