There are many worse actors than T Cruise. No comment on his personal life.

Rainman was an exception. He was actually very good in that. And he was playing with a star as big as him. (and even more talented)

I just watched the remake of Cat People (1982) with Nastassja Kinski and Malcolm McDowell. It was actually really good, and had an amazing score by Giorgio Moroder. Certainly an interesting premise, and I love cats too.

Here is the Wiki entry: Cat People

Cruise has impressive stage presence. He is more of a movie star than "great actor", imo.

Most of his roles are in movies that work only because Cruise stars in them.
He's definitely a classic example of a "movie star", rather than an "actor." I'd disagree that his movies are only good because he's in them, though.

Some are - I was thinking of Jack Reacher.
How about Mike Colter? He's 10 miles closer to looking the way Reacher is described in the books than Cruise is - 6'3" and he brings his own guns.

Or how about Jackie Reacher, starring Charlize Theron? :D

Great point Egon, my brother and I laughed for about a week when they announced that Tom would be playing the role of Reacher, trying to figure out how he could look over 6 feet tall with a busted up face. And regardless of how much he worked out, he would never reach how massive Reacher was described.

But I'll give him credit, he wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Which is pretty high praise considering how biased I was at first.

I'd always imagined Reacher as looking something like Dolph Lundgren, but with a buzzcut.

Physically, John Cena would probably have worked as well. Never watched any of his movies, though, so I've no idea what his acting is like...

I just couldn't take TC seriously as Reacher. Plus the (1st) movie has car chases... ugh.

Maybe it is just that I would never bother watching something like Jack Reacher if it wasn't for Cruise. I mean... I certainly wouldn't watch it if it starred Dolph Lundgren. For me he is only good as Soviet hero Ivan Drago ^_^

I assume you haven't read any of the books? I have read all of them.

Which is why it took TC for you to want to watch it.
For all of us that read them all, TC probably wasn't on our top 100 list of actors that we would have chosen for the role.
I was thinking more like tjs282
But I'll admit, he wasn't as bad as I expected he would be.

The hunted (2004 or something like that)

What a stupid film.
Worst of all was the beginning, though, cause (for no reason; they could have just used the typical middle eastern setting) they included Kosovo and some serbian paramilitary which worshiped Milosevic and therefore (naturally) executed a few hundred albanians while nato was bombing the place. Not very realistic...

Lundgren has actually gotten better as he's aged. It's like the wrinkles have taken all of the woodeness out of his face. He's pretty much stuck in B movies though. I'm hoping he gets a spot as king Randor in the 2021 Heman movie. Itd be a cool call back.

Didn't Lundgren do an Expendables film?

All right, maybe I was too subtle in my implying that The Expendables are B-movies.
