He's definitely a classic example of a "movie star", rather than an "actor." I'd disagree that his movies are only good because he's in them, though.Cruise has impressive stage presence. He is more of a movie star than "great actor", imo.
Most of his roles are in movies that work only because Cruise stars in them.

How about Mike Colter? He's 10 miles closer to looking the way Reacher is described in the books than Cruise is - 6'3" and he brings his own guns. Some are - I was thinking of Jack Reacher.
vade retro! Do not mention such a foul creation in this temple of culture!
I'd always imagined Reacher as looking something like Dolph Lundgren, but with a buzzcut. How about Mike Colter? He's 10 miles closer to looking the way Reacher is described in the books than Cruise is - 6'3" and he brings his own guns.

Physically, John Cena would probably have worked as well. Never watched any of his movies, though, so I've no idea what his acting is like...
I just couldn't take TC seriously as Reacher. Plus the (1st) movie has car chases... ugh.
I assume you haven't read any of the books? I have read all of them.
Lundgren has actually gotten better as he's aged. It's like the wrinkles have taken all of the woodeness out of his face. He's pretty much stuck in B movies though. I'm hoping he gets a spot as king Randor in the 2021 Heman movie. Itd be a cool call back.Maybe it is just that I would never bother watching something like Jack Reacher if it wasn't for Cruise. I mean... I certainly wouldn't watch it if it starred Dolph Lundgren. For me he is only good as Soviet hero Ivan Drago ^_^
He's in all of them.Didn't Lundgren do an Expendables film?
