I am just back from the US, as I live in Saudi Arabia. While home I saw Crazy Rich Asian on the small screen at the cinema

uh.. okay..just out of curiosity.. Why? what motivates you to do such a horrible thing? I saw the trailer in an ad and genuinely wanted to vomit

the way I read his post is that he saw Vice, Aquaman and Mary, Queen of Scots with his wife and CrAzyyy RiCh Azn Gurls  on his own, but I'm pretty bad at reading comprehension so you may be right. Either way, if my partner asked me to do a SAW marathon, or to watch soccer on the telly, or to review every season of Jersey Shaw, I'd tell to **** off. I'm somewhat of a masochist, but you've gotta draw the line somewhere, y'know?

I've been married for over 30 years so my line is pretty much non existent

After thirty years you seem to have finally learned that men always have the last word and it is ‘yes, dear’.

That and also commonly used set of last words, 'you were right dear' ;)

I've heard nothing but good things about Crazy Rich Asians ... what do you perceive is wrong with it? Plus it has Michelle Yeoh :queen:

I cannot for the life of me understand a single word Michelle Yeoh says. Specifically just her. I don't get it.

And I love to try out new ones, I'll go on HBO, Amazon, and Netflix and see what's available under "Romance", and sometimes I find something really wonderful.
Sliding Doors is pretty decent
I second Sliding Doors as an interesting movie: I don't remember it being particularly romantic, but it's a long time since I saw it.

I tend not to watch 'serious' romantic movies, though: if there must be romance (eeewww!), I much prefer comedies, so I grade them by laughs, not tears-jerked: Here's a few that I thought were really funny:
My Big Fat Greek Wedding turned out to be much better than I expected, when I finally watched it last year.
Easy A could have just been a standard high-school movie, but was much better than that.
Also starring Emma Stone  but in a non-lead role, Crazy Stupid Love is a pretty good farce
Also starring Steve Carrell in the lead, and offering hope to nerds everywhere, The 40-Year Old Virgin is hilarious.
Bend It Like Beckham is also more about the romance than the sport, so don't let the football ;) put you off...

it's the type of movie that makes me want to gouge my eyes out. I saw the trailer  some people like 50 shades of grey and that's fine, I don't mind at all. some people like romance novels with predictable story lines. some people like McDonalds. I have no issue with that, just keep it away from me pretty please.

I've recently seen Bumblebee, Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse, and Mary Poppins Returns, all three were delightful. I'd still like to see Aquaman and A Dog's Way Home.

I'm starting to get together my movie lineup for February: my tradition is I always watch romantic all month (because of Valentine's Day). I have my staples I always watch:

- Love Actually
- Bridget Jones' Diary
- My Best Friend's Wedding
- You've Got Mail
- The Princess Bride
- The Sound of Music

And I love to try out new ones, I'll go on HBO, Amazon, and Netflix and see what's available under "Romance", and sometimes I find something really wonderful. Last year I saw this movie on Netflix called Naked, it's extremely funny and if you haven't seen it I really do recommend you watch!
I saw that Moonstruck will be on Hulu in February. I haven't seen that in many years, so I wonder how well it holds up.

Seconded. As ever, sports movies aren't usually about the sport.

Ohhhh I've never seen Bend It Like Beckham, that has Keira Knightly, right? I mostly hate sports, and the only sports movie I've ever liked was Field of Dreams (which I saw on tv a few nights ago!)

I love Dakota Johnson, but I hated 50 Shades of Grey ... just so boring! And I swear they have no chemistry. I was expecting much more from that movie, but it took way too long for anything to happen, and when something did it totally didn't live up to my expectations. Talking about contracts? No thank you, please bring some charm next time.

Crazy Rich Asians is on my list for February this year, I've been looking forward to it and I regret not going to see it when it was out in the theater. I'm really sorry you don't like those types of movies :(

I don't understand why you'd be sorry about that. are you also sorry that I don't like hard boiled eggs? it's cool that people like different things, otherwise our planet would be boring as hell

anyway I've seen Bend it Like Beckham and it was pretty god for a romcom so I think you'd enjoy that.

Mr. Nice Guy and First Strike (I think the latter's called that, I wonder what the original name was in Cantonese).
Jackie Chan at his best, with comedy and rooftop fighting and all.
are you also sorry that I don't like hard boiled eggs?
This is no laughing matter, you heretic.

hard boiled eggs are absolute trash-tier, they're the lowest of the low. out of all the beautiful potential an egg has, hard boiled eggs are the utmost perversion, yes, a crime against nature indeed.

what kind of cruel sadist would boil an egg until all it's beautiful properties are rendered a chalky, dry, tasteless hunk of frustration? you could have made a nice scramble, a beautiful fluffy omelette, a soft and delicate poached egg, a simple and humble sunny side up, a crispy fried egg, a soft boiled egg that is so tender it melts in your mouth, you could've made hollandaise, mayonnaise, a soufflet, pancakes, tortilla, breakfast burrito, a frittata, some shakshouka, ajitsuke tamago, a quiche, oyakadon, the absolute king of all breakfast items, eggs benedict.. onsen tamago, omurice, the possibilities are ENDLESS.

a person who hard boils eggs is, no, has to be, secretly an egg hater. also, boiled eggs objectively reek of sulfuric, aka wet farts, aka what catholics think hell smells like. hard boiled eggs are heresy. the hard boiler is to be burnt at stake.

What on earth are you doing to your hard-boiled eggs that they're dry and chalky?

putting them in boiling water for minimum 10 minutes, y'know, because otherwise they would be soft boiled eggs

an egg can never be chalky and NOT dry. have you ever eaten chalk, syns? because I don't think you have.

so you can visualize: different degrees of dry- & chalkiness:

10m is a bad egg
12m is a crime punishable by death in some countries (the civilized ones)
15m is part of the geneva convention and can't be spoken about in universities without giving a trigger warning

Even leaving aside that you need to hard-boil eggs to make stuffed eggs, and the fact that Synsensa does not know hardboiled eggs are best eaten with mayonnaise, hardboiled eggs are awesome in their own right.
