Hey.

I've played heaps with Babylon and Japan and I've won with Germany and the Aztecs (SS and diplomatic). I've never come very close to a culture win and I haven't won by domination, although I dominated a lot.

I was thinking of playing on a large map this time and that means a longer game. I want to play one more monarch game before I play emp again.

What civ should I play? What are your opinions on a map? I usually play continents small or standard. What editor options might change things around to make it more fun?

Check out Egyptians. War Chariots, okay, they suck, but--Industrious + Religious. Best 2 traits in the game.

For my money, I would go with the Iroquios.

The expansionist quality on a large map is really useful and the (veteran) mounted warrior does do the job unlike that totally useless war chariot. some of my fondest memories are of watching my bowmen and warriors ripping those things to shreds. In the game where I tried the Egyptians, I didn't even build one.

Cheap temples let you build something (10 turns with reasonable land)when you're waiting for pop. points to build settlers and they expand your city borders more quickly.

I love my Babs but some of my best games have been with the Iroquios. Ok, lower levels but I think the traits would be just as useful higher up.

Try india on Monarch, they are really good!

They have commercial, which is good on large maps because it reduces corruption, and it is religious, which is the most useful on Emperor and Diety.

ANd they have the war elephants, which are Really awesome! They are knights that don't need rescources. And the golden age comes at the right time.

play as the russians ... they are excellent .. and cossacks are an excellent cav unit .. also for quick mod ideas ... i call this one my hard life mod ... change dessert and tundra so u cant build irrigation or mines and u get no food or sheild (mebey a food from tundra and a sheild from dessert) pump up floodplain and game an extra food and hills and mountains get an extra production and give oil some extra production .... oh yea .. and on a normal map pump up the civs to 16 .... u might wanna try being greek if u cant get a good start ... and do this all on a cold arid world and be prepared for lotsa wars :D
