While We Wait: Part 4

I thought up there in the ozone layers, the O3 mean its reactive..

(an by side arguement, yes, oxygen is the main killer/aging agent in your body)

Bullets break up when they hit water because they're being massively decelerated, and the forces tear them apart. The same is true of a spacecraft going from the vacuum of space to an atmosphere. It is decelerated and friction is generated. The elevator isn't moving through the medium, so why would it heat up?

No idea, but I didn't know it was purely down to forces, i thought there were reactions going on aswell.

I wasn't talking about 1960's. But beyond 2020.
Yes, because:

What are you talking about? The moon has resources to make far space travel cheap. For one there is the possibility of water, and not even bringing up helium-3. America would be unstoppable in the space race if they claimed the moon.
Is not a clear and direct reference to the ongoing situation as of 1960 in The World Turned Upside Down. I am not an idiot, thank you, I'd appreciate it if you didn't try to play me off as one by changing your mind as to what you meant after the fact.

I clearly gave no time scale as the space race continues. With America ruling the moon they have a huge base for deep space missions. Forever.

Btw, I am not trying to state anything I am saying is correct, I'm just saying how i thought things could have been and am asking how it actually is.

Oh yes, forever. Forever and ever and ever. Unto eternity.

Because Luna matters so much when you're fighting an intergalactic war.

As far as I'm aware, the atmosphere is not especially corrosive in any one part. I'm hardly a meteorologist, though.

But that knowledge is unknowable to all currently taking part in the proceedings, therefore it is irrelevant to the issue as it stands. It's little different than if Russia was thinking about selling Alaska to the Americans and somebody barged in and said "Hey, but there's like tons of gold and oil there, mang, I can't prove it but I knows it!"

As far as any of you, right now, in the current context of the game know, it's a rock. You're not thinking about deep space flight, helium-3, or anything like that. You're thinking about them using it to lob nuclear weapons down at Earth with impunity maybe. Something like that. Or at least you should be, because you're clearly not.

The spoken English in Baltimore is closest to...actually, I'm pretty sure that the spoken English in Baltimore is something like what Charles Li speaks in RL. :p

Can I haz tank corps? :p I always did like my panzers.

Proud owner of zero English accents, outside of sometimes slurring my words when speaking quickly. But who doesn't do that?

I wanted to reply to the ongoing discussion, in order to justify this post a bit. But I really have nothing to add. Sorry.

Newsflash: NESism defeats Nazism: -------------------->
x87.jpg

> Last defenders of East Prussia defeated by das, Lord Iggy and j_eps.
> Last Nazi fortress in the Austrian alps is defeated after a tough battle, and mass air bombardment from our airforce.
> General ~Darkening~ oversees the encirclement and capture of Budapest.
> Hungary and Romania fall in time for Christmas.
> Bulgaria refuses to make peace, and fights on. New-year offensive led by Symphony D., with generals Luckymoose and ~Darkening~ in support, soon reaches Bucharest.
> Italian peninsular is captured by France, but Italian forces in Africa fight on, and conquer Egypt.
> NESland changes its colour to shiny yellow. Annexing so many countries makes us more 'belligerent' in the eyes of the world.
> Shock news: USSR declares war on Japan!
<----------------------------

May I ask, should I attack France now? Or wait a while and build up? Or attack USSR (brave)? NESland is still technically at war, but I can't do anything against Italian Africa at the moment.

Spoiler FYI :
Symphony D. and Warman17 are still the only two field marshals at present. As it turned out, Warman has seen little action so far, and has gained less skill. Abaddon, Head Serf and Shadowbound have ended up as the most skilled (skill 5) but they are only Lieutenant-generals. Some others went down a level when I needed to promote them.

Birdjaguar is highest ranking air commander, but FlyingChicken is the most skilled (now skill 5).

Ho? Got the most powerful Corps and I didn't even have to ask. I repay your kindness with random and arbitrary requests for a custom avatar for the Field Marshall and a better logo for the Covert Ops!

Failure will not be tolerated! Also, I like Tanks. ;)

Sure thing, and nice pictures! BTW your namesake in the game has now gained the 'mountaineer' trait, as well as being a 'hills fighter'. I've never seen that before.

Daft, I would like to spearhead into the Balkans now!

Luckymoose, your general has fought with distinction through Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, and now has some tanks instead of infantry.

You can haz tanks! I had already named an admiral after you, but the NESer forces don't have any ships yet :)

@Daft Onward Field Marshal Stalinator! Though I don't appreciate his skill starting at that of noobs... he must liberate Austria, and move on to fight the wretched French. It will be Joe who takes Paris, I declare it! Though this better be paused for a certain NES' update this Wednesday...

I think your guy is a skill 4 general at the moment. I'll make sure he heads towards Paris if it comes to that. But no guarantees about who actually captures it! ALSO, I will not be wasting as much time on this after tomorrow, but I can't work on the update non-stop :)

Charles Li shall head the Tactical Nuking of Alsce-Lorrine. (or maybe stratagetic night bombing of reenforcing division?)

actually conservative/masorti, but its just that I was brought up in an english-speaking home, at hebrew school, so yiddish didn't come till later on.
Ah. Very different from the community here. Only the Reforms use Hebrew, everyone else uses Yiddish or Yinglish. Despite going to Jewish day school for three years and Orthodox Hebrew school after that, I still speak very little Hebrew.

Not normal in the conservative community here, excepting those who went to a jewish day school and/or high school. Most of the oldest generation speak Yiddish, then Yinglish, and finally Hebrew in those under 30. As they are not generally 1st gen canadians, they have english as a first language, so they go to a hebrew school, instead of picking up yiddish at home.

Making me an admiral does make more sense.
"We're going to have to fight the Russians eventually anyway. It might as well be now while we've already got the army here to do it."
"In ten days I'll have a war on with those Communist bastards, and I'll make it look like THEIR fault."
It's easier to kill Admiral and People's Commissar Kuznetsov than it is to own up la Royale.

Nope. I just have a very low opinion of Bawlmerese, and I have a similarly low opinion of your ability to form coherent, intelligible sentences of any great length. :p

Also, in other news, this has an excellent opening sentence.
