Even though Part 8 was closed because Part 7 was, I think that the NESing community, after seven threads of discussion we are more than capable of maintaining a level of civility in these threads. With all due respect to Turner, I do not think that Part 8 needed closing for no other reason than that Part 7 was closed. By the very nature these threads police themselves quite well, ultimately resulting in a new thread if anything gets out of control.
That said, I'm sure the NESing community will agree that such a tradition as this should continue, and furthermore I'm sure that the majority of NESers will acknowledge that a certain level of maturity must be displayed in all conversations.
Finally, I will contend that nowhere in the rules does it say we cannot start a new thread if the old is closed. If anything it gives us another chance to do things right and learn from our mistakes. If this is not given then it simply stagnates progress and denies us the right to improve upon ourselves.
However if this thread erupts into disrespect and flame and becomes an utter cesspool, a mockery of discussion, then I would have to say that there's every reason it should be closed. Part 8 however had not.
