Who hates you?

Have you had any AI civs who seem to hate you no matter who you are or what game you are playing? For me, the Greeks are my main enemy. No matter what I do, even if I haven't picked a fight with anyone, they eventually try to steal something or start a fight. Last game, I did nothing dishonest when suddenly, they switched to Fundamentalism and piled troops at our borders. We went to war a few minutes later, but that was a first since other countries usually don't start something with me unless I slapped a few cis around already. This time, I kept to myself, but they still started a war!

And it's always the Greeks that start something with me...most other nations wait until I start something first.

Anyone else?

Take care,

Jay

Every civilization seems to hate me. I hate them too though so its ok ;).

This time I'm getting revenge. I keep wiping out everyone until the Greeks show up. Then, I plan to surround their ciy with fortresses (so they can't expand) and use my settlers to build mountains and deserts around their city, effectively destroying their food and resources. If they're a coastal city, a battle ship or two in port will cut off their food supply.

Let's see if I can starve them out...

Good thread mate! For me it is always the Zulus and/or the Mongols. They hate me whether I am weak or powerful (though I'm normally the latter) and whether I am a war-monger or peaceful.

:)

It sounds like you are playing Gold. Try the classic or 2.42 version of civ 2. In multiplayer gold, the A.I. is very hostile.

My favorite story also is about the Greeks. I had a game where the orange civ had been wiped out and the Greeks were spawned. It was in mid game and I was using tanks and howitzers, and this Greek, with a new city and one lone warrior demanded tribute from me, and its warrior proceeded to attack my tank when I made the proper reply...:p . Needless to say the Greeks did not survive the turn.

Zulus, Mongols and Vikings are aggressive and often hate me... Being classified as "aggressive" influe on their behaviour.

They are not the only ones who are aggressive. 7 of the 21 are:
Mongols, Vikings, Greeks, French, Zulu, Japanese, and Germans.

For me its the Celts. No matter how damn peaceful I am, they still attack me. And also the English. When I'm not playing as them.

I have the Gold version. Basically, the AI is hostile. I have noticed that one civilization is used as a sacraficial lamb constently going to war against you while some other civilization that does not go to war rapidly outgrows you.

Also you have to be careful when exhanging knowledge. Don't exhange knowledge that would allow another civilization to build a wonder that you are currently building as they can build it faster.

I actually like to give the newly spawned civs help. If you help them build to a decent level, they can help you in a war, but still not be a threat.

I've been just as vicious to civs that've pissed me off, but they'll be able to use sea squares even if ships are in them. But, here's another idea: 1) terraform like crazy, so they're surrounded by hills; 2) Destroy all the units in the city but one; 3) If the city is without city walls, attack when the city is size two and then capture it at size one- destroying the city. If you don't have the patience, just poison the water supply again and again and again...

Jeez! I knew the Greeks were stupidly aggressive, but I've never experienced that!

For me, the Russians, Mongols and Vikings are always my problems.

And Specialist, I still love reading about that game.

The Zulus always hate me. Always. They nuked me completely out of nowhere, and I'd never done a thing to them.

The French once sent a trireme against my battleship.

The trireme won.

The Aztecs have hated me ever since civ 1. But Monte's latest incarnation is the worst :(
