Who is the hardest AI?

I have been playing BTS for a while now, and I have noticed something about the AI. The first is that usually one AI stands out above the rest and is far more powerful. The next is that that AI is usually the same as in other games. Cathrine/Russian leaders, Egyptian leaders, and one of the Meso-American groups are always the most powerful. Cathrine I can understand because of her traits, but I was wondering what other AIs people think are the strongest.

One side note, Cathrine and the other leaders from above are never as powerful in a team game as in solo play (at least to me).

Every now and again I get an unusually powerful chinese AI, but that is because there is no one else around to check them.

Just wondering what others thought and if they had any tips for everyone.

In my opinion, the hardest AIs are the one that tech whores that tech well and trade a lot, the ones that are more likely than not, tech leaders.
HC, Mana Musa, Asoka.

Cathy and most creative leaders are pretty strong. Of the warmongers, Shaka is the most dangerous as he'll tech a little better with the ikhanda (and he WILL make them) cutting his costs 20%.

The other dangerous AI type as has been mentioned is a tech whore like MM or HC when they get a lot of land to expand into peacefully. Their traits and AI personalities let them tech pretty soundly, but worse yet trade these techs to more aggressive AIs.

I've seen MM attack and force Stalin to capitulate. All it takes is enough peaceful land for those annoyances.

All leaders can be tough in their own right, and susceptible at certain times. Some examples

Isabella: She is one of the easiest to rush earlybut she can also have a massive army at the end, even her outdated junk can be troubling because of the numbers.

Mansa Musa: A tech whore who is very difficult to rush early.

Shaka: If you cannot get him early, he's a major threat the entire game.

Darius: A monster early with the UU, but typically can be taken down later even if technologically advanced.

Ragnar: An agressive war-monger who techs very well with that fnancial trait.

Mehmed: oragnized + expansive are JC's old traits and very tough to play against.

Zara: Holy smokes, 6 discounted buildings, and nasty mid-game UU, and an annoying very early UB!

Every leader I have trouble with at some point and every leader I have creamed early.

But I think the hardest AI to tackle is Shaka when he is on your starting landmass but too far away to rush early. He knows how to war, and his UB is effective, early and cheap.

I play on noble without any resent patches, but I have to disagree. Shaka has never been a problem for me. In one game, he and Napolean were on my continent. I founded Judaism and quickly converted them both. Shaka was always closer to me because he had horses and I had iron, so I had Napolean start a foreign war against Shaka's ally (Bismark), and then I attacked Shaka while he fought Napolean. Shaka is usually my first ally or my first vassale state. Other than that, tech whores are not a problem for me because I have found that by being a civ with the phi trait, I can convert religions and get the techs and then switch back with little problem.

Organized and Creative are the two traits that seems to consistently come out on top among the AIs in my games.

Creative leaders are the most annoying, ecpscially Gilgamesh, I really hate this guy
Warmongers: Shaka is very dangerous as are Ragnar and Khan. If you dont kill them, they'll kill you.
Wonder whores: HC if he has enough land to expand
Tech whores: It's situational. Sometimes they are pain, but sometimes they are great trading partners, especially Mansa. His WFYBTA is close to unlimited.

Basically, any AI with the Creative trait will be dominant in a game (assuming you don't rush them early in which it wouldn't matter which AI you rushed).

DMOC,

You've never rushed Sitting Bull, have you?

The hardest leader is probably Hannibal. Guy looks tough as nails. (tee hee)

Napolean. He secretly hates me because some how he knows I am 6 foot 4 inches and am looking down at him even when kneeling. :spear:
No matter what when or how well we have gotten along, he declares war at me at the worst possible time, and I cannot seem to route him in the early game to prevent it. HIs AI must include a Declare war against player 100%
'
Only time this does not happen is if we are not sharing the same landmass.

Mehmed is always the worst in my opinion. He will spam out cities, they grow like the plague (mine at 8 his at 22 pop) and he will always have a SoD with about 40 units before his inevitable DoW.

Shaka and Monty are a pain but if you strike them early you can eliminate or cap. them but Mehmed is always a pain.

I think this differs from game to game. I could say, though, that I have an extreme hatred towards certain leaders. They are, in no particular order:

1. Monty: I never trust Monty. Just look at his face. Does he look like someone you can trust?

2. Shaka: Once he feels he is powerful enough, which he almost always builds a massive number of troops, he will pick on anyone he feels is weaker.

3. Tokugawa: Please, open your borders! What do I have to do to make you like me?

4. Isabella: Almost always, I adopt a religion that is different from hers. That means an instant enemy.

5. Joao: Backstabbing bastard. Enough said.

6. Mansa: Gotta hate those skirmishers. And this guy is probably the biggest tech whore in the entire game.

7. HC: What is with this dude? Never ever leave him to peacefully expand.

These are all I can think of, right now.

Zara-Current Game he is just dominating with like Double score, Double land and almost Double Power. I'm Hannibal with the GL and I can't seem to figure out what to do other than just out-tech him!

Shaka- I hate him so much. He just is like this huge bully with weird running spearmen who techs better than monty (who I think is just a wacko)

Sury- Ugly and Land Hungry hate.

Pacal II is one of those guys for me. I don't know why. Maybe it is just the "selective memory" influencing me, he does seem to tech quite well, or at least, up until the industrial period. As far as warring goes though, he is pitiful.

Any AI that you fail to check will run away with the game.
