Who is the hardest AI?

For me, Zara always seems to be a tank.
He has the advantage of always being there when I do a OCC, of course (then he takes up at least half the friggin map). Even not OCC he always has a large empire.

It's been said that creative yields strong CPU's, but i notice how philosophic civs, and to a lesser extent protective civs are the opposite, always at the bottom (I'm looking at you, Sitting Bull). Seems CPU doesn't use those traits well.

I can remember many of my own games.

Also, for Willem, check out Lonely Hearts Club for Sury where Willem was almost always the first to discover liberalism, and in a lot of obsolete's games I remember Willem nearly ruining his game because of his cultural victory. :goodjob:

Willem was not the threat in that game typically, though ;).

It's horrible with them. You'd think the AI would at least be scripted to use "emphasize food/great people" more when philosophical. Protective serves its purpose for the AI having it - annoying human players who want to attack them early.

The AI can't leverage protective as vale didn't tell Blake to teach the AI the wall-overflow-whipping-trick.

Gilgamesh tends to dominate the games of mine he's in. I don't mind so much since he's easy to get along with, though he'll give you a good run for your money in a space race and he's very good at building military. With his protective trait I always hesitate to rush him, and it always comes back to bite me in the ass :(.

Okay. I am looking for a challenge. Give me top ten hardest civs. I want to knwo so I can test myself, so I am looking to have an AI that uses everythin it has against me.

Shaka
Mansa
Zara Yaqob
Hammurabi
Willem
Suryavarman
Catherine
Huyana Capac
Hatshepsut

And pick your favorite tenth Civ.

You have here 2 organized Civs that always seem to tech well in my games, both of whom can present a military threat, you have three financial Civs to accelerate the AI tech rate even more and increase the likelihood of Friendly trading amongst the AIs, you have five creative Civs to help choke you in the early game, some of whom are likely to try for cultural victory, Catherine who can be bribed to attack you at Friendly, Suryavarman who's likely to be upset with you no matter what you do, Shaka who can expand ridiculously thanks to the Ikhanda and always seems to present a large military threat, and Huyana who, in the absence of other Industrious leaders, will be well-placed to steal wonders away from you.

That's my line-up.

Shaka
Monty
Boudica
Suryavarman
Tokugawa
Hannibal
Ragnar
Hammurabi
Genghis
One of the Caesars

On a small pangea map with aggressive AI :ar15:

okay so im playing giant earth map, last time i played zara had vassalized the entire continent and would have won had i not taken him down (since i had europe as spain).

this time im playing, i turned vassal states off (to encourage more civ extinctions), and i am maya....
i look across the seas and shaka is engaged in a rather bloody war, he took down zara who was larger than him and is now working his way cross mansa musa. he must have at least 40 cities by now and is teching faster than me.
i think this is what people must mean when they say shaka worries them.

edit: thanks dmoc, i'll have a look at it =)

There really needs to be a mix of leader types otherwise its too easy to tech away from them.

Agreed. If you want it REALLY hard, put just ONE warmonger in...say shaka, and give him a 3x gem start with plenty of room to expand before war. Start the player somewhere far from him.

It would take a great deal of skill and concentration to deal with that.

The hardest AI is Hannibal because he can tech whore like mansa but he's much more aggressive than the other financial leaders.

Yes I remember reading a game where they set up a Diety OCC vs. Shaka, Monty, *Warmonger*, and Mansa (ALL ON THE SAME TEAM). For kicks they threw in Always war and Aggressive AI.

To balance this they made it so that he was completely sheltered in mountains except for a small forested hill. The Axemen he put there had every promo in the book. Mansa made the game extra interesting as he was able to get Bombers in the 1700's just ruining his economy. Eventually he got Mech Infantry and destroyed the AI. He got real lucky they didn't win an AP vote.

This will have the effect of making at least 1 AI do poorly (if they get boxed in) and creative civs might not do as well if they are next to each other.

But I'm interested in this. Please post your game. :goodjob:
