What's wrong with feeling white?

Oh nothing, but you feel kinda uncool is what I meant. :p But anyway, this is pue unadulterated spam.

I have mixed feelings about hip-hop. I'd have to be a total idiot not to recognize that the greatest musical tradition of all time is that of blacks; not to recognize the enormous effect their music has had on American and world music as a whole, producing such revolutionary genres as rythm, blues, swing, jazz, and the greatest of them all, ROCK [even if it did take some country and British influences to bring it to its zenith in the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, etc]; but when I see some of the crap they are turning out today under the name of "hip-hop", "rap", etc, I want to tell some of them to take up the harmonica - if it's not too hard - and get back to the mic when they know something about making MUSIC!

Between the pretentious and unlistenable noise of "ghetto" musicians, the whining and trite wailings of bubblegum "pop" harlots, and the unimaginative moanings of "boy bands" that can't seem to turn out anything that would seem modern and original to a guitarist from the 70s, modern music is really going down the drain. And there's no Musical Messiah on the horizon either, the kind that pop up whenever musical traditions get cliched to "mix things up a bit" - Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Stravinsky [here classical music falls in a jumble of dissonant avante-garde pretensions, but popular music takes up the thread:] the Harlem Renaissance and all the great Jazzers, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Lennon/McCartney, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin... and there the dynasty fails. We haven't produced original music worth the name since 1979. IMHO, of course.

Sorry, I just get a bit angry when I see people say things like that.

So: name your example. Post 1979, original, big as the biggest of the 60s and 70s.

EDIT: oops, I see you were talking to evie ;)

Lil Kim... Try Big Nasty.

Only rappers I like are Ludakris and Busta. They aren't so lame as to take themselves so seriously. They can be funny and laugh at themselves. Too many of these others talk about crap they ain't never done but I WISH they would do.

do you realy know what you are talking about? I think there are alot of other rappers that know wat they talking about. I think you forgot Tupac, Biggy, 50cent, eminem, and a whole bunch of others who are one of the most significant icons in the culture. ;) But I could understand u if you think those are ur favorite but they aint tha best. ;)

Bah! Hip-hop is for those who haven't been exposed to "proper" music!

I'm in 8th grade and we gotta take Music Class, believe me I was exposed to ALOT of old music and fell asleep in every class, its wack, I dont like classical music.

edit: whats not proper about it? That they not bold enough to be different? Or is it tha slang, look at country music and thier accent...

Yes and no. It is rhythmic in the way the words are strung together. It isn't as easy as it looks. Some of it is purely done for commercial reasons, but some of it is good stuff. :goodjob:

U need to listen to what they are saying and understand it, its real, most of what they say is totally true all the way, listen to the words they sayin. More goes to hip-hop too, like its beats. Well cant talk no more, watchin the awards and finishin homework, peace.
