Why are there few females with Aspergers?

That's all a load of crap made up by some "doctors". Back in the old days, these "syndroms" didn't even existed.

Yeah, and witches float!

Actually, I imagine if you took me and a neurotypical, and hooked us both up to those machines that measure brain activity, they'd be different results.

Made up voodoo disease. I fit in quite well with the symptoms of Aspergers yet I am a perfectly abnormal member of society.
I probably would have been diagnosed with it to as a lad. Some stupid shrink said I had some very-mild autistic symptoms when in fact I was just shy & didn't like/trust him.

According to Dr. Daniel Amen (brain scan dude, written some books) typical is not necessarily healthy. When he wanted to establish a baseline of what a healthy brain looked like he found only about 1-2% of people (IIRC) actually have pretty healthy/balanced/non-neurotic-suppressed-overactive brain patterns.

In other words nearly everyone is f-ed up, just that for many, the industry hasn't established a niche term for exactly how yet. :crazyeye:

I babysat a girl with Aspergers Syndrome for a couple years. (she was 8-11 during those years)

First off, I know it's a spectrum disorder... but I get really really annoyed with posts I see by people who self-diagnose themselves with Aspergers Syndrome. It's NOT just social awkwardness, it's the complete inability to understand any social customs/behaviors. (most of it has to be taught, little of intuitive for them)

Most of the self-diagnosed Aspergers I've seen are probably just socially inept - they can understand just fine, they just either freeze up or have trouble "thinking on their feet" in social situations, but they're not near Aspergers.

Secondly, it can be an incredibly frustrating thing to deal with. I feel that defining it helps caregivers and friends better deal with those who have it.

Thirdly, I've met exactly two people online who've been diagnosed by a professional as having Aspergers. They're nearly non-functional, and typically cause massive amounts of trouble wherever they go. (One of them decided that telling a 16 year old girl on a forum I was an admin on, after just two MSN conversations, that he approved of her and would consider marrying her was a good idea. He thought this was a normal compliment)

Just IMO. I'm not a doctor or anything, just someone who's watched it happen firsthand.

I've been professionally diagnosed.

I've been professionally diagnosed.

I wasn't even aiming at post at you, sorry if you thought I was. I mean it's a fairly common occurrence for me to see guys post "I don't have very many friends, I must have Aspergers!" on forums I frequent without any real evidence.

Females are scientifically proven to have smaller brains than males, and only larger brains, more powerful than the smaller, female counterparts, are capable of having Asperger's Syndrome.

Jesus, the amount of ignorance and stupidity in this thread is astounding.

Surely is it not obvious that my post about females' brains being smaller is purely satirical? What problem do you have with this? I don't understand why Americans are so agressive.

Your inability to articulate your thoughts correctly is not my fault. If you don't want people misinterpreting your ramblings then learn to express yourself properly.

Please do not blame me for your lack of comprehension skills.

Because what you posted was soooooo obvious, right?

See, that's how you use proper sarcasm.

Back in the good old days, you didn't get excema, you just had dry skin and got on with it

What's bad about peoples' problems being recognised anyway? Just because you don't understand it, doesn't make it bad or wrong.

Well, this so called syndrome, along with many others, is invented only to boost sales of drugs, and some "doctors" careers. So, I don't consider this "syndrome" good or bad, I consider it non-existent. I consider leeches ("doctors") that promote it bad.
Healthy outdoor activities cure this "disorders" much better than some placebo pills.

Dude, just because a huge recent study proved that exercise is on par with drugs for your average depressive doesn't mean.... err.. you're a jerk Pannonius, just trust the experts ok!!
