Why can't I delete my own post?

Perhaps this is so because the first post of a thread is supposed to explain what the thread is about. Obviuosly this may not be the case all of the time, but if the first post in a thread was deleted then the rest of the thread might make no sense whatsoever.

Yeah but if you wanted to do that than you could just edit it to say post deleted

Would it be possible to make it so that a thread could be deleted unless someone had replied to it? So if you had accidently posted a new topic then you could quickly delete it.

I actually posted a thread about this in the vB forum. They said it's already possible to "allow users to delete posts that aren't the first post in a thread within vBulletin 2.0". I will have to take a closer look at the settings...

While you are at it TF, why don't you head on over to the hacks page and see if it's a possibility to restrict a user from editing their post if necessary so we don't always have to close threads to preserve evidence.

And being able to delete posts will help reduce the number of double posts!

Yeah, but there can be problems caused by that, say I had to remove some porno you posted, I can't show the image and I could always claim you posted porno and that's why I edited your post and then claim that my quote is the original post you made before editing. It's really quite easy for a moderator to still manipulate the system, not like it wasn't already. But you see, the problem is with us, not the poster. What about allowing the original poster to delete posts when there are zero replies but not otherwise. That should allow easy removal of double posts in addition to removing those threads that have been dead from the start so to speak thus actually reducing the load on moderators.
