I can not seem to establish embassies.

The FAQ says to Double Click the star next to the capital to establish an embassy, which takes me to the "zoom to city" screen, with no apparent option to establish a embassy.

The only way I can establish an embassy is to hold off on the "writing" advance for as long as I can, so when I get it, I get prompted to establish embassies with the people I have met, but this approach is no good if I either a) don't have enough money or b) havn't met everyone in the game.

Thanks for any help.

You are right about needing Writing. I don't know why clicking on your capital's star doesn't work (it should). You can't establish embassies if you are in Anarchy (don't know if the same is true if they are in Anarchy) or if you are at war with someone.

I experienced this bug with 1.17, but in only one game. Someone told me that Ctrl-E will do the same command. A third way is to zoom to the city screen and click the espionage icon there. I have not tried these work arounds as the star capital button started working again in my next game.

If someone else establishes an embassy with you, i thought they got extra knowledge about you. It doesn't give you extra knowledge about them.

They should get the benefit of knowing what is in your capital, at the moment and you don't get that honor, but that does not really help you in the long run.

I still get to do all embassy stuff when he opens it thus saving soem gold for those good ole fashion war starting spy missions.

If you don't establish an embassy with someone, you don't get the marginally useful reports about the other civ from your advisors; other than that I don't think you lose much by not establishing embassies early (although it is cheaper early).

CTRL-E allows me to establish embassies and solves this problem for me. Thanks.

I have read in some other posts that it is possible to se how many Techs another civ has? I thought this was the idea of having embassies, how then does one do it?
