Can a LAN game be prevented from starting cus of a firweall ? Can someone tell me how to start my LAN game ?
I have 2 computers in my home network, everything works great on other games.

CIV3 however, I cant SEE the game that my friend hosts and vice versa. HOW COME ??

heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelppppp!!!

I don't think I can see my other computer in the LAN menu either, would have to check to be sure, but in any case try accessing by direct IP, chances are if your computers are on a LAN they have a network IP address similar to 192.168.0.100 etc

you can find this IP address by typing cmd in the run box on the start menu and then using the command ipconfig, i know i mucked around with firewalls on one pc (to play over the net) but I didn't bother on the other and it still works (maybe lucky)

When I play with my roommate we see each other's game in the menu (make sure you select LAN, not Internet play).

Have you tried the Refresh button?

Yes, a firewall will interfere on the LAN if it's set incorrectly. The firewall isn't suppose to be installed on that connetion, it's supposed to be installed on the connection to the Internet only, but if for any reason you installed it incorectly it will interfere. If you use the same cable for LAN and Internet, which you would switch between the two depending of what you want to do (a lot of people do that, kind of cheap setup but works for many) the firewall won't know and would still affect both connections as if both were the Internet. If you have a router, no problem, firewall has no effect on the LAN side of the network (unless you plugued the cables in the wrong connectors, which is not what owners of routers happend to do very often).

If that didn't help, please give more details about your setup so that maybe I may be of better help.

I seriously doubt that you'll need the ports open, because that's mainly GSA and browser-related stuff.

Are you just automatically recieving a delegated IP from the router, or have you set it so it gives out an IP automatically? Try switching one of those on, or vice versa. Failing that, open the TCP/UDP ports (Shouldn't have to; you've said there's no firewall, but what about firewalls inbuilt on the router? Sometimes that interferes with LAN equipment. It's happened to me.) listed in the Readme/FAQ.
