Hello all, I like the game but there is one thing I am particularly missing from Civ 4.

Why can't we see which technologies the other civs have?
I understand that we can't tech trade any more but knowing which techs my opponents have is useful for a number of reasons:
  1. I can know which units it is able to build;
  2. I can see if I could be able to win a wonder race;
  3. I can estimate how far advanced in general it is compared to myself.

Does anybody else miss this? Can we ask together that this feature be broght back in a future patch? :help:

Because you're not generating any espionage points.:lol: Build more spies!

Seriously, they took it all out.

i get a warning in the demo if another civilization reaches another era. (medieval for example). Scouts can help to if u are worried about rome reaching legions for example.

Spies would justify this if incorporated later. Til then, why not be coolin with them so they give open borders and while strolling around you check what kind of units/terrain improvements they have?

I like it alot as it is. I never thought opponents should be able to see what tech I have unless they used legitimate espionage. Too easy to counter. (Hey he's beelining zerkers/samurai, I'll just stop at machinery and destroy his army with 4 crossbowmen... or... hey he's beelining rifling, I'll just give every musketman pinch and build statue of liberty).

I must say that perhaps you are right. Maybe I have just to adjust myself to this change.
Well, I will play more and see! :)

Because difficulty in this game is achieved by randomness. Knowing things is bad for randomness, it lets you build strategies

Unknown != Random

Recon IS the new strategy. And the not knowing makes war a riskier and (buzzword) interesting decision.

That would be true if there was at least espionage or some other way to discover what they are researching, if they are planing to attack you, their relations with other leaders, and such things. But there is no "reckoning" for this things.

Yes I do miss it. Not that I think it's critical on it's own. You will at least get a message when they enter a new era and can track wonder construction.

However, together with all the other info that is now hidden or simply removed I feel Civ5 isn't giving me any feedback. In Civ4 you had game score at the lower right corner, tech screen, diplo modifiers, lots of graphs and demographics.
