Beat me to it Knas. Yeah, American soil was invaded in 1812 by the British. The advantage we had was being seperated by an ocean, something poor France didn't have to help them vs Germany.

As to me, an American, hating France: I don't hate France or the Frnch people it is just part of our culture now to joke about the French. It has been popularized by shows such as "Married with Children" and by the attitudes of French ppl to tourists and the attitudes of the French-Canadians. Ask GenghisK, I mess with him all the time about Frency-speak.

I would say that most Americans don't hate the French. Like Ouchgeddon said, it's more of a good-natured ribbing thing mostly. And like PH said, it has become a part of our culture. Like Cleveland. Or New Jersey. (And if anyone doesn't remember the good-natured slurs against them, you're just too young! )

That said, a lot of Americans get tired of France ALWAYS nay-saying whatever the US says. I know that's an exaggeration, but it sure FEELS correct. It seems like the French do it just to tweak our noses, not because they believe they are right.

So I would say that is part of why we 'hate' the French.
