It's a simple enough question. What do you get out of it? It's is to show your knowledge of a subject? Is it to gain a better understanding of the whole of a subject by discussing with a person with a different point of view? Do you like discussing anything with people from different cultures / backgrounds ect?

Or is it merely a spam race for the Top Poster Crown?

What do you think?

Mine changes from day to day depending on my mood. I have to say I lurk quite a bit on subjects I know little about just to watch two informed people got at it. In a posting, debating sense of course.

It varies between and often includes multiples of the following simultaneously:

~ To learn
~ To laugh
~ To waste time (when I'm obliged to be strapped to a desk despite having done my work)
~ To keep writing skills fresh
~ To share and exchange knowledge I have
~ To deepen my own views by having them challenged

Post count comes as default when those are pursued.

Why am I here? To get the insight afforded by the views of people worldwide with biases that I'm fairly well aware of.

Being able to spread some knowledge or dispell some myths about naval topics or armed self-defense is a bonus.

Because I enjoy human interaction, I like to learn and I like to share my opinion and learn that of others.

Because I need attention.
Just kidding ;)
I mainly stick around here because of the few right wing and left wing extremists. I rarely read nor reply to moderated posters.

What Davo said, + to waste time. I find CFC is a good place to hang when talking on MSN, for example.

why I post here ???? hmmmmmmmm!!

I post to get my dose of social interaction, to learn some things , to reply stupid witty jokes at serious posts :D

This is, unfortunately, my primary means of social interaction. If not for this I would never talk to anyone. I think that humans in general feel a need to have their opinions made known, and this is as good a way as any to do so. Plus I like the Babe Thread.

To waste time at work, and to voice opinions. I usually don't talk politics with people face-to-face, since in my experience it just leads to badness....

Bored at work is mine too. You can tell what kind of day I've had by my posts on here. If I've been really bored I tend to jump into the complex arguments. If it's been a bust day I just post here for a bit of relief* and I end up spamming the place up trying to be witty.

The other good thing about OT is that I can palm off a posters eloquent argument as my own and look clever to my workmates ;)

*Not that kind of relief

Why is everyone so bored? Sounds like a rampant mental health crisis around here.

It's very cathartic being rude to people.

It's easier to do this anonymously over the internet than do it for real in person and acquire needless cracks in the polite professional persona.

What else, you jerks....

Often I post because I am actually playing civ and thus I have to post here to say that I played the game and that increases my post, plus I have roles in many team environments here and thus I post there often.

Here is a different matter all together. Sometimes I post for fun, see my many Babe thread posts for that and the Forum games Forum, I post to share my views, even though for the majority of them, they are a minority view here.
