any ideas why, because to me it seems that the "no-posters" shall we call them play all the time and theres peoplein CFF that posted like 10 thousand times and never play the game so lets call them "non-gamers". Again, any ideas why this appears to be true

Not every civ player are member of CFF and even more not every civ player have ever heard about that. And some people write only when they have something important to say while others do it more.

It is strange that someone who has "deity" tag here asks stupid questions here and some "chieftains" give him a correct answer :)

Agree with that. Have played Civ for 18 years but only noticed CFC six months ago. Maybe too busy playing Civ. CFC forums are good though.
Had lots of good tips since buying BTS. Still learning all the time. Forums are also great for exposing some people's obsessions, off the wall opinions and as someone said, super-inflated egos. Replying to these, of course, is optional.

The real question is: How can a single person's ego become so depressingly big?

What are you getting at? I dont see the connection between this thread and your statement.

It might just be me but who knows, others may be asking the same question.

Because a lot of the people with thousands of posts are people who tend to spend time in off-topic talking about things that have nothing to do with Civ.

but they could alternate days or something similar like splitting the day but yah I could see where your coming from, is there any other reasons

sounds fair, like a good idea, I usually play random games cuz its funny to see how your opponents turn out

sometimes I add two or more leaders from the same nation as leaderheads in the game like Elizabeth and Victoria of England

Most of the time I come here is because I can't play at the time, but when I can, it's usually to get me fired up for opening up a Civ game.

Also you have to consider that some people with 10k or more posts have been here since way before Civ 4. (Not me, I joined when my copy of Civ 4 didn't work. If the date posted showed the date, you would see my join date is Civ 4's release date.)

Also throw in the off-topic thing. I post alot on here though. As Olleus said, I just like these forums. Along with the good spirits here I like the 'atmosphere' here. I have tried being neutral and checking out apolyton, but sorry it hurts my eyes to look at. This forum is clean and easy to read. I love the layout.
I check in every day, but I don't post every day. I post alot but not nearly as much as I read.

I recently have been playing more than I had though due to purchasing BTS. But now that I am getting familiar with all the new goodies, its getting hard to restrain myself. "Must learn... how to mod... this and that". :help: until finally I will end up like I did with vanilla modding and learning to mod the parts I don't like. And eventually put my package into a mod for myself. At which time I will be a person on the forums discussing features but spending very little time in game, if you exclude modding as "playing".

1. If people have no posts, how come you know they’re playing? And if they have basically no posts, how come you know they spend much of their time playing?

2. If you had taken some time reading the different threads, you would have noticed that most posters actually do play – a lot. How else could they have such in depth knowledge of the game, or be able to post so many saves and screenshots, the latter from various stages in their games (that they’re by your statement not playing)? Actually, quite a lot of highly skilled players put in a lot of time and effort to share their knowledge through posting games and guides, as well as answering questions from other people. I, for one, am extremely grateful to those posters of many posts, they’ve helped me many times, and they’ve made it possible for me to improve my games.

3. Some people don’t know about this site, they’re thus not posting, nor reading, you have no ways of knowing what they’re up to, not even if they have the game.

4. Some people know the site, but do not register, thus visiting as guests who are not allowed to post. Some people know this site and are registered, but do not intend to post at that particular moment, thus they visit as guests. You have no knowledge about these persons identities, nor what they are doing, apart from the fact that somebody (registered or unregistered) sometimes visits this site, and they’re at that moment not posting.

5. Many people are registered and do post, some a little, some a lot. Most of those people do also play, I’m sure, but neither you nor I have any ways of knowing how much or how little unless we do some proper statistical research.

6. Conditions for posters/players might change: During the day/week/months. Sometimes people have no time for playing, but take time to stay in touch with this site, reading and occasionally (or often) posting. Sometimes the same people get absorbed in a game and don’t read nor post. And sometimes the same people get absorbed in a game and have in-game problems they want solved, or want to share their game with others, thus post a lot while playing at the same time.
And neither you nor I have any knowledge whatsoever about their ratio of posting versus playing.

7. Then there’s “real life” as in family, friends, work, studies, illness, holidays etc., those things can keep players from posting and posters from playing, or even stop all posting and playing.
And again: You and I have no knowledge of the extent of this.

Personally I was an unregistered guest for more than two years, thus reading but not posting. On and off through those two years I played, and I didn’t play. As well as real life, there are also other games, and there’s computer crashes with no money to repair.

I registered this August, read some more, and then started posting, while playing on and off. Sometimes I still visit this site without logging in, thus not posting, not playing, but doing “invisible” reading. Some times I log in, but do not post, some times I do post. Some times I play BtS, sometimes not. And sometimes you can see that I’m logged in because I have not gone into invisible mode. And sometimes I’m logged in while in a game. And at this very moment I’m not visiting, nor logged in, and I’m not playing, but posting! (There’s this thing called Word that has excellent copy/paste qualities. :D)

And you would have had no way of knowing what I’m doing, if I hadn’t told you now! But in the very moment I log in, copy/paste this and log out again; - You will have no means of knowing what I’m doing next!

So, no, I can’t agree with you when you say that your statement appears to be true.
To me, derived from reading various threads, your statement seems to be false. But; - Without doing a proper statistical survey, I have no way of knowing that my impression that many heavy posters also play a lot is true. It’s just an impression which I believe, and hope, to be true. :D

I do agree that the relation between postcounts and game ability isn't exactly linear, but I don't know anyone with +1000 posts in this forums that is a noob..... ( well, maybe except KMadCandy, but I wish that I would be such a permanoob as her  )

I can give you some reasons that explain inflated post counts:

-You play SGs ( believe me, discussing moves every ten turns with other 4-5 people can really bump your post count up )

- You like to help people ( there is always someone complaining the x civ attacked him when it was friendly, and it is necessary to tell that he could be ploting the war for a long time before he got friendly with you, or that he was AP forced to that )

-You are bored at work

-You like your fair dose of heated debate ( there is always someone that asks why Al Gore is in the Internet symbol , why we have two germanies and three romes in game or why the GW system in Civ IV is so misconceptioned....and you have to jump in  )

-You are here for a long time and have a moderate post/day ratio

-You visit offtopic forums a lot

- You are a Polish/Hitler/Canada/whatever lobbyist

-You double post a lot

-You like to spam and or flame ( know a few )

-etc

As you can see, most of the reasons I quoted are not game-ability related.....

I've been on this site for some years now. At least 4 I think.

Furthermore I do still play the game I have Civ 4 even though its bollocks. Though the amount of game play had decreased extensively over the years.

These days I play Civ one every 3 weeks or so.

Most of my posts are from the NES forum and Off topic. Both of those will really, really, really increase your post count by loads.

look up kMadCandy on search or something, that might prove it, I havent tried it yet but feel the right to go ahead

KMadCandy just says she is a permanoob but she is one of the quickest to reply to a well-phrased question with the correct answer. She's also a QuatroMistress by the way. EDIT: And she like plays civ, all the time, except when she's posting.

so your a noob Catharsis
