Why does he do it?

I have been playing a game with my regular setuo (transend, large planaet, medium land mass, avarage native life, sparse clouds, blind reaserch, spoils of war) as the believers I started off REAL bad, but built myself up to be the second most powerful behind Yang.

Yang and Lal are fighting it out (Yang allready killed off the Gians) and out of nowhere Yang drops a plantet buster on U.N. Headquarters. This cancels 1 pact and 2 treaties he has and put him at war with everyone. Lal responds just as his peace loving police personality would, but planet bustering a Hive city with the most Secret projects.

Since at this time I have a pact with 3 people agaisnt the Hive and a treaty with the 4th, I start to attack Yang as well, but only with minor vengence. It will take 10-15 years to get my full force war marchine rolling at him.

About 5 years (turns) later my only city with secret projects in range of Hive planetbbusters gets SMASHED!

My question is why do any of this?

I have Planet busters of my own. I have the money to upgrade all my forces to nerve gas units (I did). I have to political power to get the U.N. Charter lifed (I did) and within 10 years at least half of Yangs cities are plantet busted or nerve gased to destruction (I did not want the cities, better to destry them all togather).

By hitting Lal with a planet buster, yang brought everyone exceptme in the world agains thim. He was currently beating Lal for the most part. By Planetbustering me he get a Faction with mass destruction capabiliteis to go at him. And he did not even hit to strpng of a city (level 16 yes, but no substantial projects).

With my past experianc this is how Yang alwasy goes out. Is this just a bad AI or is there some hiddne reason for it?

Any memebrs of H.I.V.E. want to answer this?

See my freinds, that is logic and brain capacity of the hive. In essnces there is none. This is largely due to the brainbwashing caused by the yang when the drones where children. There loyalty to an absurd cause is quite astounding. In fact intruiging. In short it's their nature.

I always have the planet loving tree hugger nuking me. One game, I took over a few of her cities on this small island and she nuked one of those cities. So, she is not only nuking me but the people that use to follow her. It just doesn't make since sometimes.

She loves the planet ... ya right.

I don't see wich is the problem. You say you are powerful, have mass destruction weapons, gas nerve units and are allied with all the world against Yang... but you also said you are behind him in power. So, you are in a minor vengueance with him, and he nuked one of your cities. What is the problem? Did you expect a faction stronger than you, and even being Yang (the Believers are also fighting for anything) to surrender and beg for your mercy just by seeing your units coming?

Yang has the highest agression level correct? Strategicaly the hive uses poor tactics.

I've never been nuked by the Hive, but I have been nuked by the Believers, and gassed by the Spartans. And also never by the Gaians. It seems to me that some people get this from different factions.

I did not expect Yang to go down without a fight. What I do (well, used to) expect was that if I (or a computer player) am not causing any real harm to a faction (like Yangs), but could if provoked, then I should not have a single planet buster hit me. If Yang had 3+ of them and could do some real harm then I could see why. All he did (does) is provoke you into destroying everything he has.

The thing is, once you lift the Charter, (I checked this), the factions (especially those with a history, or already at war with you) are 50% more likely to bust your ass back to the stone age. Also, having used them in the past makes them even more likely to use them.

(and the factions in SMAX have also been taught how to better use thier abilities.)

The U.N. Charter was not lifted until after both Yang and Lal busted each other and after Yang busted me. I just got the charter lifted so I could bust back without getting all my alies mad.
