Why don't vassals pay tax?

I know that there are civics which allow one to get more money out of them, but that is not enough. There should be an actual tax paid by the vassal state to their liege or master.

As wikipedia states it ''Many empires have set up vassal states, based on tribes, kingdoms, or city-states, the subjects of which they wish to control without having to conquer or directly govern them. In these cases a subordinate state (such as a dependency, suzerainty, residency or protectorate) has retained internal autonomy, but has lost independence in foreign policy, while also, in many instances, paying formal tribute.''

I've not tried demanding gold, but I tend to demand resources from vassals and it always works. Maybe it will also work with gold per turn or plain gold?

BTS system considers resources as the only tax you can actually demand. You have to ask for money like with other civs who are pleased or friendly with you.

They should be forced to pay their Vassal 5% of their commerce, at the very least.

Can you not demand food per turn from your vassals?

Never heard of that feature Leoreth. However, in addition to what 1SDAN said, how about we would have the vassal tax percentage just like research adjustable? On top of that, with a higher percentage the vassal could be more upset than with a lower one and increase the likelyhood of breaking free, how about that?

Hahaha sorry. Can I convincingly blame autocorrect?

    I meant gold per turn.

Kinda related, I find it way too hard to get resources from them once you hit a decent size, because of the AIs demand for fairness in trade deals - that really should be "relaxed" when it comes to vassal/master trade offers.

Expect resource trade to change soon.

But can you also change the vassal tribute system?
