I came across this blog in Korean that talks about strange personality of Basil II.
He was almost workaholic but cared little for anything else... not fame or popularity. or girls, or entertainment, or even ( despite how he is presented in civ 6) religion. HOWEVER, he was every keen on managing his empire and leading troops into warfare.
The author of the blog explains that his personality can be seen in city management gamers like Total War series and city building simulators.
I think civ game can be added to it.

Oddly Basil II did NOT have reading as a hobby but left many military books on training tropes...
which arguably can be compared to civ fans creating blogs/videos on guide to playing civ games...
which is interesting point of view on Basil II

No, no... That's not why he's like Civ players.

The reason he was like most Civ players... Was that he was a Micromanager...

You sure most civ players are micromanagers? I don't think so.
Alright, then, but in relation to Total War players, though, he most certainly is like them.

Total War games do not have micro. Well, Rome 2 has some with its character trees and actions, but that's about it.
I meant battle micromanaging, but I see your point.

I guess if you count Bulgarians as barbarians and the Bosphorus as a canal, then yes to 2 out of 3 of those?
