why is this even called a patch?

Hm, let's see ...

2kdot has published his list of the happiest civilizations:

1. AI I : 545
2. AI II: 323
3. AI III: 287
4. AI IV: 245
5. AI V: 201
6. CIVplayer: -1 to happiness buildings, -1 to lux, -1 per city.

It's hilarious.

=========

I like how those things are tweaked that have an effect on THE PLAYER only. Dear devs – the players aren't broken. You don't make the game better by nerfing the options to manipulate it.

Much of the game's rule system is not even in effect for the AIs. And I don't think the patch will make me believe that I am finally playing the same game as AI-opponent X.

Wich difficult are you playing on? Normally if you are on a higher difficulty then prince then the AI gets bonusses

you're right, this shouldn't be called a patch. indeed is a Revolution in Civ 5 (if this revolution is good or bad,we'll soon know).

I don't remember what difficulty it was. I only remember the hilarious happiness values of the AIs. The whole happiness concept does not apply to them. Which is why it's so hilarious they are "patching" it. What is this? A strategy game? Or happiness-Sudoku?

They nerved the happiness to make it more difficult to mange your empire as result more challenging for the player to play the game because of the many AI bonusses he has to manage it well.

Still would like a AI that is good at his decission not because he gets major bonusses and dont even need to pay money upkeap thats like playing chess but your opponent can do 2 moves per turn

There was a lot more in the patch then the changes to happiness. I think it's silly that people are exclusively focusing on that.

Let's look at all the other things this patch did.

1. Finally fixed Research Agreements
2. Fixed Scholasticism.
3. Balanced the policy trees better.
4. Add flavor to SPs via the finisher bonus in each tree.
5. Made the NC start less powerful to provide balance with other strategies.
6. Continued improving AI and diplomacy
7. Finally added the much demanded replay
8. Added hotseat
9. Added a building and a bonus resource to go with it
10. Made longsword rush less obvious and dominate of a strategy
11. Improved Germany and Ottomans weak UAs
12. Finally made Great Person buildings worthwhile
13. Rebalanced many wonders and buildings
14. Rebalanced some civs UAs, UUs and UBs/
15. Fixed some more bugs
16. Gave the modding community more power

So as you can see, this was a patch. I personally didn't see the need to change happiness, though with the social policy changes, if they had left the buildings and luxuries and cities the same happiness would have been far too abundant. I know they've got people who gameplay test their patches before they release them and I trust that they wouldn't be cutting happiness down on all those things if they didn't feel that the other happiness changes made up for it.

And all that is moot, if you can't build your cities big...or would I say City?

And replay? I don't want to see another boring game again, even if I lost or won!

This is the third iteration of the game and even if they nerfed my happiness, will the AI still "sail around on a shrimp-sandwich" feeling no pain at all?

This is not what I wanted, but only gameplay can tell the truth.

lol gozpel. with that opinion your probably in the vast minority. judging from all the threads I read here, replay is one of the most sought after additions and will make many many players very very happy.

However, I am actually like you in that respect. I hardly watch replays; I rather be using that time to play another game :)

I was always in the trenches for game-function, before gadgets. Replay was worthy in Civ3 and maybe....in Civ4. But in this game, definetely not. I've seen it already and it was a drag as it was, I'm NOT replaying that boredom.

But if ppl wants it, then ok, I don't deny anyone anything.

Now back to the game, reaching 900hrs soon...I'm just an idiot. :)

The problem is when management decides that going for gimmick features is more important than gameplay.

That is the 11th hidden policy, that effects us every turn we play: Idiocracy.

Gadgets/gimmicks is what people wants the devs says, so let them have it. Noone ever asked me if I NEEDED those before the game was polished?

Right, there were polls on this and that all over the place, but gameplay was very rarely mentioned. So give us replay, that was what todays players asked for and that is ok. So let us just forget about gameplay, it's an old word and should be buried.

I agree this is not a patch, but only because it is an enterily new game. And this is far from being the first time they change the whole thing. Which proves they sold a product that was far from finished.

As a lawyer, I`m pretty convinced that this situation is an absurd violation of consumers rights (at least according to my countries legislation). As a consumer, I almost regret liking the series so much.

you act like people should be happy they added the replay in when it should of been in to begin with.

No, he just acts like they're providing quite good patch support for a product. Which they are, unless the doomsday scenario regarding happiness turns out to be true (I HIGHLY doubt it), and despite the horrendous release (which I'm not defending at all).

???

I work around IP law in canada and while I haven't passed the Bar I still have the qualifications required to be an Agent here in Canada. Long story short... Any complaint regarding gaming software and consumer rights ends with the EULA since you only pay for the right to use the software and you don't own the software.

You could complain if they sold you a defective DVD but all that would get you is a new one. For them to keep improving the software after release is all pro bono, they don't need to do it, and only really do it because obviously it gets more people interested and older players possibly buying DLC.

This patch I think is great. Sure they could have delayed the release to get some of the stuff in the patch today, but it's not like they are charging me to add Hot Seat and Replays, and a lot of the balance changes they might not even had known as required if thousands of us weren't already playing the game.

ne he acted like we should be happy that the finally included something that should have come witht he game.
