I've noticed a lot of people vehmenently against the idea of adding Canada as a Civ.

Why? They are a huge player in the national scene and contributed much to a very important part of history, the war of 1812, a battleground for a france/england proxy war, all that fun stuff.

Heres what I thought up for it originally.

Canada
Leader: John A. McDonald
Unique Ability: Peacekeeper - Can move through other Civs territory without open borders.
Unique Building: Parlament - Culture bonus.
Unique Unit: Mountie - Replaces Cavalry, suffers no penalty to other mounted units.
Scenario: War of 1812.

But upon further thought, I think it could be a good way to use Quebec, since Quebec is a city state, and it's been well publiscized that Quebec has issues being part of England, being French and all.

Maybe the UA could be "The Quebec Method" or something where we pick a Civ that ends up being our Quebec and influencing Canada where instead of being part french or w/e we could be part of any of the civs and get some abilities from them or we just get along better with whatever Civ we choose or is randomly chosen by the PC?

Just an idea.

Other then that, Canada could make use of the Tundra/Ice tiles.

Canada is a very interesting oppurtunity for this game, why do people not like the idea of it?

EDIT: I'd also like to point out Sid Meyer himself is Canadian. Just FYI.

From what I've read people want to include Australia or even an Inuit nation but have an issue with a Canadian civ. Never understood why, Canada would make a great civ and an 1812 scenario would be epic.

Canada is a socialistic government that has been engaging on a military buildup along our common borders

Canada's Prime Minister a member of a satanic cult

Like maple syrup, Canada's Evil oozes across the Americas...

ergo, Canada should not be included in the game. Not if it'll promote their propaganda-istic agenda to sway our young fresh minds to SOCIALISM

I think a Canadian civ and an Inuit civ would both be great additions... Sounds like a DLC pack to me...

I assume you meant international scene? ;)

While I would like Canada as a civilization (really badly actually) I don't think it should happen until we have a truly epic amount of civilizations in the game. Currently you can't justify it up there with England, China, Persia, etc.

Also I vehemently disagree with your choices of uniques, we have a good framework in the proposed civilizations thread but the UA should have more to do with Confederation I think (bonus production or culture from railroads or just connected cities?)

Even the Unique Unit? Mounties would be awesome.

This.

Canada

UA : +1 :c5gold: from every trapping ressources
UB : Carrousel. Replace circus. +25% flanking(maxed) and experience earning from mounted units.
UU : Royal Cavalry. Replace regular cavalry. 30 :c5strength: and +1 :c5moves:.

Inuits

UA: +1 :c5moves: for units crossing ice/toundra tiles
UB : Igloo. Replace the granary. +3 :c5food: and +20% :c5food: when city is settled on a ice or toundra tile
UU : Polar bear killer. Replace the spearman. 8 :c5strength:. +25% :c5strength: when fighting on toundra or ice tile.

Reasons : Canada is pretty large. Units learned how to travel faster than regular units. They learned how to make more money from furs, deers, etc. Inuits know how to make very good use of barren lands and can be stealthy.

Come now, every civ in V has a culture.

What culture does Canada have? I've never read any Canadian literature, and when have you heard anyone say "honey, let's stay home and order some CANADIAN food?"

Even the Unique Unit? Mounties would be awesome.

At the height of their use they were paramilitary at best. We could be better served by a unique version of WW1 infantry, Marines (JTF2, if they make a comeback in G&K) or even the Avro Arrow!

(Maybe i'm bias'd because I don't use Cavalry that much :p)

We can all agree hands down that the UB would be a Hockey Arena right? (replaces stadium, adds culture in addition to happiness) :D

Killing two birds with one stone, I highly recommend you give Pearson's Peacekeepers a read. And damn now i'm craving some Songhai food....

Every countries have a culture. Some are just more ignorant than others...

But to not drag this topic entirely off-tangent, I agree that Mounties should be made a UU. They'll make an awesome replacement for Cavalry, and more importantly, we can have games of Cossacks v. Mounties in an Alaska map

Moderator Action: I'm now going to reconstitute one of the rules from the Civ5 release: No "why is my civ not in Civ5?" threads allowed. That counts for all possible civs, not just Canada.
If anyone is interested in discussing possible civ inclusions into Civ5, then please visit this thread.
