I understand that some people are actually clinically depressed, and it can get pretty serious. But most people that claim to be depressed are just sad. And being sad is as normal as being happy, only a perfect idiot would be happy all the time. I bet cavemen got periods of sadness too, it is part of what makes us human. The notion that technology creates more sadness is not backed up by anything concrete; several books written centuries ago seem to point that things are as they always were.

I realize that this thread is a horrible mashup of a good concept. I'm not depressed, just sad at times. I realize the likelihood of an afterlife is practically nil, and that me getting into Heaven is Absolute Zero. Thus, I decided to live life to its full extent before passing on. I already know there's no real purpose in life, but that won't stop me from enjoying it.

Alot of people are born with a healthy negativity bias. This is a great trait to have in a dangerous world, because it helps keep you alive.

Also true. The people who think life is all happy and the world is great, who tell me I need to "lighten up," are the first to break down and throw up their hands in moments of difficulty when I keep a cool head. There's a fine line to walk and having a capacity for being negative is crucial.

I maintain myself every day. Sometimes more, depending on time constraints..

Rich people can afford more things to enhance thier experiences. Poor people have to rely on oldfashioned hard work. Both have their merits, but I'd rather have the option to enhance my experiences.
