i may sound as a person who is lotal his country:king: but the truth is that redcoats are the best! .they have 16 st
25% against mounted
25% against gunpowder
thats 20 st and the stongest unit in that era is cavalry 15st
and it can be upgraded form any prev unit.:)

18 st agianst 20+ st are you out off your mind

Redcoats have no counter-unit during their time. The best way to take down cossacks is to have redcoats. As England, you fear nothing during the Renaissance era.

Too many people confuse the word "favorite" with the word "best".

Honestly. Thankfully in this case it's clear that Redcoats are the best in the majority of instances.

Sign me up as another Redcoatophile. (I also love inventing words.)

The first time I ever played as Elizabeth, I shared a continent with Huayna and Bismarck. I played peacefully until around 1650, when Huayna declared war. I could barely contain my glee as I watched my Redcoats pummelling his Knights, War Elephants, Cavalry, and even Riflemen while receiving barely a scratch for their trouble.

They're even more awesome if you fight an early war or two so you can upgrade all your City Raider-promoted Axemen and Macemen. Both Elizabeth and Victoria are Financial, which makes that easier to afford.

I have yet to use them against Cossacks, though. That must be an interesting match-up--something of a replay of the Crimean War?

Panzers are the best UU. Panzers will run over redcoats. Panzers will run over cossacks. Actually, they will run over anything except modern armor and mech infantry.

Not when Berlin got razed by quechuas in 3500bc ;)

Praetorians win because they are more overpowering for their era. Also more important because they come up in the early game.

I truly love both cossacks and redcoats. It's pretty close between them. Redcoats are stronger, but cossacks have the extra movement. Since I put a premium on fast attacks and maneuverability, I have to go with cossacks.

At first I was into Panzers, but I feel they come too late in the game to be highly effective. Perhaps I need to start more modern wars. I always seem to end my games peacefully.:nope:

Still, the Panzer is just like a normal tank against gunships. My love for the redcoat goes back to no counter-unit being available. Of course Panzers are the strongest UU strength-wise, but each UU must be considered within it's time period. Yes, Panzers can beat redcoats, but Panzers aren't around when redcoats are (unless you're way behind in tech).

No, Jaguar Warriors are the best. They are so cool looking and you can put them on jungle squares and be proud that no unit but an axeman can take them off.

I agree with what Naismith said. Praetorians are more overpowering in their era. They're 33 percent stronger than the swordsman they replace, and the redcoats are only 12.5 percent stronger than the units they replace, so if a regular rifleman is on a hill with a 75 percent defense bonus, and has some promotions, the redcoat will not win that battle.

quechua = nothing
try a quechua rush on marathon. if your capital is on a plains/hill, you may be able to take out 2 civs! even if not, the archer bonus makes it almost certain you'll have one extra sweet capital site and vast stretches of land to expand into. and if you don't quechua rush, at least you don't get stuck with jaguars. jaguars = less than nothing! an offensive unit with a defensive special ability? better knock off a strength point to insure everyone hates them. cool looking, yes... but, as they say, you can't dress up a turd.
