Why the halos around workers in PC screenshots?

Whenever I visit civfantics.com, I usually check out the screenshot of the day. Often I notice that units, especially workers, have a halo around their feet about the size of a land tile. It is reminds me of the sports games genre where it indicates which on-screen player is being controlled by the gamer.

I have never run across this on the Mac version of Civ III and wondered if it served any useful purpose.

Any ideas or comments about how stupid my question is? (How is that for a "dangling participle?)

Thanks

That is just added country identification. You can turn it on or off in the preferences. It is in the mac version also.

It's one of the options in the preference... something called team disk color I think. :) This option is most likely in the Mac version also.

Excellent. My oh my, that ended up being a stupid question.

Thanks for the quick responses, however.

I'm gonna play with it on for a few days to see if I get used to it.

Again, thanks.
