The West was being walloped. But then the holy Sid Meier smiled upon the West, and allowed them to have a chance to conquer some of the Eastern cities by outfitting them with horrible AI. Then, to make up for the Times of Walloppedness of the West, he invented Civ to instill a great faith in the holiness of their cause in them. This will allow them to always beat the AI scum that is the East.
