Why won't it load

I have installed Civ 3 on my computer. I know the cd is good because i ran it on my old computer. However when you try to start the program the screen goes black as if to load the video. However, the computer than returns to the desktop without loading Civ3. My computer has a 1.4GHz Celeron, 256 ram, directx 8.0, and a 48x cd rom drive. What should i try. Running XP.

I am having the same problem, but my computer is not as fast as yours. I am using win 98. Have you heard how to fix this?

I can get the game running when my virus scan is scanning. Which makes no sense at all, but it works.

I had the same problem after upgarding to windows XP sp1: The answer is you device drivers should be at a compatible level. Try upgrading your video driver. I did, and my problems disappeared.

How do I update my video drivers??

I installed AOL 8 and now the game loads and runs fine. AOL came through and helped someone, that is weird. Surely the world will be ending soon.
