Yes. I saw it on the news. Malibu, Santa Ana winds, etc. It's terrible.

There's a huge fire in Santiago Canyon, a few miles from where I live. It's caused the air outside to be so polluted with smoke that the smell of it has somehow managed to creep inside my apartment, even though my all my windows are closed. Yikes. I'm too scared to even step outside for fear of damaging my lungs by breathing in all that toxic smoke. I hope school's going to be closed tomorrow... though I doubt it will be.

at this point I get to evacuate. school finally gets closed

ridiculous. I might have to evacuate (I live in Carmel Valley), but my school STILL won't close for tomorrow because it is getting inspected for accreditation. A few other posters (MjM, LightFang) also live in the area in question, as well as more posters that don't come to mind right away.

I live in Carmel Valley as well. I guess we are supposed to evacuate. If it gets to my house it will be one big freaking disaster $$ wise.

I was living in LA during the San Bernadino fires of 2003. A lot of people seemed to think it meant the world was going to end soon.

I lived in the Rockies during one of their huge forest fires. When the fire comes over the mountain into the valley, it really does feel like the Apocalypse.

it'd be best to pack everything just in case... I've already evacuated and currently am at a friend's house. at this point, it'd also be wise to keep phone conversations short, as vital lines have to be kept open for law enforcement and firefighters.

You're not insured?

No I am insured. Im mean I live only about a mile from the coast. If it burns to the coast there are a lot of very expensive homes that will be destroyed. It is a large and densely populated area. Houses start at about $1Mil.

you have it slightly better in that case. My house is near the school CCA and is at the eastern edge of Carmel Valley. If it gets here, my community will be the first to go.

I know it sounds wrong but I fantasize about LA burning. Once the people get out, that is. :cowboy:

I hope no OT posters' stuff or their friends' stuff or their friends burn, though. :(

Ooooh I read "If it gets to my house it will be one big freaking disaster $$ wise" the wrong way, I assumed it would be a financial disaster to you...
now I get it :)

Its pretty interesting that people who have lived their for years and years fail to realize this is the ecology of much of that area.

One of the places you might see in the news as being "threatened" is the Pepperdine Univ. campus in Malibu. I was a freshman there in 85-86 and we had this same exact thing happen. In ~1993 or 94 we had a similar fire and I was living in Woodland Hills and we had 4-5 students come and live with us for a couple days when they evacuated the campus.

The good thing is the planners at the school were pretty smart and the school is essentially surrounded by a road that serves as a firebreak. Plus the building are basically made out of asbestos very flame-******ant materials.

It sucks, but its not unexpected at all. Build accordingly.

God is punishing the US because we are still in iraq!!! We need to obey what god says! Do you want another hurricane or an earth quake to kill alot of people before we obey what god says! (No murder, or anything else)
