Ive played a couple of games of the Beta for Wildmana 9.0 so far and just thought id give my initial feedback.

bearing in mind i know this is a beta release and i assume there is a fair bit still to go into it to make it finished here are my opinions:

  • The new Magic System looks impressive, and im excited to see it once its complete but im EXTREMELY confused about how the 'magic techs' are granted. there doesn't seem to be any way to specify which one you are studying...(is it determined by what mana you have access too? it doesn't seem to as i got mind magic 1 as the new Vampires and didn't have any mind mana at all...) does it have something to do with the little book icon? if so is this like the equivalent of science for the tech tree? If so id like to suggest the addition of a 'book slider' like the science slider. also, a magic research progress bar like the tech research progress bar would be much appreciated.
  • The interface in the top left corner is very cluttered. i assume this is known but i felt i should point it out again and offer a possible solution:
    Spoiler :
  • What is the small gold sun icon next to the book icon below the gold icon at the top left of the interface? and why do spiritual leaders get extra of this? what will it be use for and how does one get some of this?
  • how does one increase the rate that we get mana yields? will different nodes and improvements provide mana yields to tiles? so far i only know of the palace granting initial mana.
  • how does one increase the rate at which we study magic techs?
  • The New improvement system is interesting, but as i said in another thread:
    me said:
i have to agree i dont understand the new improvement system in the slightest. some techs say they will allow you to build some improvements (eg. masonry and quarry) but i cant (there are no other improvements anywhere near by, on a marble resource) the unhappyness from most seems a little crippling, and so civs with fallow have a massive advantage in that improvements do not cause unhappy at all (the new vamps seem to be pretty good with this). overall i think some intense documentation is needed to make this work, maybe even a popup for first timers to explain the new stuff cause im lost o_o...

these are just a few of my first impressions / questions / opinions that i thought were most pressing (for me ;))

overall im definitely impressed with the level of work put into this (i love the look of the new magic tree and the magic advisor pages, if only i knew how to use them!) and im excited to see the final version 9 be released!

[i just realised there was a lot of feedback in the beta forum... sorry if this is in the wrong place and has been answered elsewhere... ill go read now...]

the book is you magic-research-"bar" once you have the amount of knowledge you gain a new mana tech. personally i like your idea more with a second progress bar. you can increase the spell research rate by certain buildings like mages guilds and alchemy labs.

the small sun icon is faith. faith works similar to mana and enables divine miracles. the income will be based on temples and on certain conditions which are different for each religion.

buildings that increase the rate of mana/faith or spell research have those little icon too so they are easy to spot.

you gain mana by certain buildings like a mage guild (at least that was so in the older betas) and from mana nodes within your territory

ohh cool :) thanks for the quick reply. the book makes sense now, and itd be awesome to have a second progress bar instead though, more visually easy to see :p

I wonder if Gold, Faith and Mana should be displayed one above the other, as opposed to next to each other to prevent text overlap. ive always loves spiritual leaders in FfH (especially the new Fey leader) and now im more excited to see how faith works! hehe

I like your proposed screen-change. It purely cosmetic but make my life easier  I hope Sephi will incorporate this.

I also love your idea of second slider for spell study. If we have that, the book icon is no longer needed, IMO. We can click the slider to go to spell study screen.

well the book icon would still be needed to indicate which buildings gives spellresearch, but like i already said a new progress bar is better then the current system in my opinion. please keep on mind that many things are subject to change.

am I simply lucky? I'm discovering recources under improvomemts pretty frequently...for instance, workes had built a mine and in the next turn gold was discovered!!

maybe my 2 nature manas have too positive effect??

afaik sephi implemented a new bar which will be coming soon :)
great suggestions, keep them coming

Can't access beta forums from work, so I'll post my suggestions here:

Should add to goodie huts:

(1) chance to get mana currency
(2) chance to get faith currency

Multiplayer:

(1) OOS every 3 to 4 turns (beta-patch-1)

New Improvement System:

(1) Need to make secondary improvements accessible earlier, I feel naked with my lands so underdeveloped
(2) I find that after building two primary improvements at early game my city is capped at low population - is the unhappiness penalty too high?

no you just did not adjust to the new system. one or two improvements are enough in the early to mid game per city. keep in mind that there will come some revision to that system though it is far from finished/balanced.

it is sephis intend that even in the end game there will be some unimproved tiles.
